you'll love infinite
kek good one but Infinite's art style is just not up to par
The only thing I miss the minimal HUD in FPS games.
Not Halo 2, shit was ugly on launch day. Basically the Dark Souls 2 of its day with the scrapped lighting system mid development
you're making up a problem that only exists in your head
100%.
Back then, graphics were good enough that everything could be rendered with distinguishable fidelity and vision, but without the need for a fucking legion of five studios working in tandem to create them. It was the last era of true AA studios being able to profitably market a game to a mainstream market.
Everything today is created to diminishing excess. I remember listening to a developer diary for Doom Eternal and hearing about the hundreds of hours that were poured into some of the environments, and the developer himself admits that most people will likely never even notice them. When every aspect of a game is breathtaking, nothing is breathtaking.
I'll agree on that but some of the skyboxes are alright
>
wow, just look at that .jpg skybox and .jpg groundbox.
the irony is that with modern games the imperfections are way more jarring because of this. I mean I tried out HZD and the graphics are good when there's fog and shit to cover up the shitty LOD but otherwise it feels like you're playing a mix of a ps3 and ps4 game, it just doesn't click, the inconsistency is more annoying than playing oblivion low
yep, it was soul
>b-but look at the game that's an rpg
Early 2000s games had soul. What happened bros?!
Anyway, we had a good thread about PC games of this era, a while back.

Non-shit threads are so rare on this board that I actually remembered it well enough to find it again.
When you go back and forth between H2C and H2A multiplayer H2C just looks so much better and pleasing.
why is this hud so much cleaner looking than MCC halo ce, god I fucking hate 343
No, Halo 2 looks great. Just compare any of the Halo 1 maps redone for Halo 2 and it's nearly a generational difference. You visit the library for 5 seconds in Halo 2 and even that looks much better.
How would you implement a fingreless glove meter in a game?
Hard mode: without making it just some armor/equipment that degrades and needs to be repaired or replaced
My pitch is to make the game have a focus on heavy use of your hands which gradually increases your fingerless meter because you're wearing through the fingers of your gloves. When the meter is full you unleash your full finger power.
Huh what is this?
Also someone posted Fable in that topic, that was peak 2000s aesthethics IMO, gonna play try 2 this week
>Just compare any of the Halo 1 maps redone for Halo 2 and it's nearly a generational difference
Halo 1 looks better than Halo 2
>zoomers are now nostalgic for brown and bloom
I guess it had to happen sooner or later. One day people will be nostalgic for skinner boxes and gacha.
Halo was pretty colourful for the most part, as was most of the 2000s
It doesn't and you'd have to be delusional to actually believe this.
Infinite has no skyboxes, so no. And Halo 2 had enemies do faces properly.
>as was most of the 2000s
Early 00's yeah, once next-gen came everything quickly became gritty.
I know this is probably a symptom of getting older, but modern games make me eyes hurt. I have a hard time seeing what information on the screen is actually important vs whats just decoration. Trying to hunt for switches, buttons and doors in modern game environments gives me a headache. Almost nothing stands out. Even enemies often seem to blend in with their surroundings
>Huh what is this?
The image? It's a screenshot of Enclave.
>store.steampowered.com
That level is pretty late in the game.
>It doesn't and you'd have to be delusional to actually believe this.
I'm not the only one who thinks this. Sure Halo 2 has more polygons but the aesthetics are "off" because everything was designed with a particular lighting model in mind.
Why is Celeste there? Game was fairly priced, no mtx, and lots of free dlc.
whew I actually already have it on steam, might give it a spin, is this that game Souls is inspired from or am I confusing it?
Low effort pixel art and meme genre
The model complexity is certainly higher, and the visual effects do look better compared to CE, but I've always thought that Halo 2's textures looked kind of "off"
>is this that game Souls is inspired from or am I confusing it?
I never heard anything about that, and I haven't really played a Souls game so I don't know if the comparison makes sense. The combat is pretty hard though.
libs made it so Zig Forums hates it
Halo 1's aesthetics are blocky gray forerunner walls for 80% of the game. Only part of Halo 1 which holds up are its rocks when you put your face right up to them. Art preferences aside, Halo 2 looks better. It actually has interesting variety in locales and uses color more too. Just look at direct comparisons between maps in Halo 1, and those remade in Halo 2. There's your evidence right there.
Because they do. They look like shit compared to CE, but it's nothing AI up-scaling or simple replacements won't fix.
Specular mapping and/or lighting in Halo 2 is very fucky. A lot of objects and characters appear more flatly shaded than they should be.
Shut up Tim.
Yeah some of the skyboxes look good but everything else, especially the characters look flat out bad. More geographically complex i'll concede, but overall worse in terms of aesthetics.
Lmao FUCK NO I don’t
Literal brown and black and grey 25 FPS everywhere to hide the shit texture quality. Go ahead and show us an INDOOR screenshot from Halo 1 or 2 OP? (Where you spend 30% of the time at least)
>gears of war
>gta 4
>resistance fall of man
>call of duty 4 & mw
>twilight princess
>killzone 1 and 2
Etc
well no one can argue with what "aesthetics" you prefer, but technically Halo 2 is clearly better.
>early 2000s
>posts late 2000s game
>Halo 2 is clearly better.
No it's not. More polygons doesn't automatically men better
That is MCC you retard. Just turn off the retard graphics.
Agreed wholly. Shit LOD in a game as good looking as HZD is worse than actual 360 game. That's why Infinite's problems are so bad too, because the direct lighting is great and so is the LOD, but then you get pop-in and flat indirect lighting that looks so fucking jarring.
They were a sweet point.
You like Halo 1's art style, i get it.
Looks better than infinite tbqh
Cate? More like cute.
Halo CE looks better 'in spots'
