>game has no map
>get lost every two minutes
>game becomes 99% backtracking and getting lost
Seriously how THE FUCK do people play games with no maps?
Game has no map
maybe just don't be spatially retarded?
i didn't like carrion either, user
Just turn your brain on.
It was either with the manual or you had to draw one, once upon a time...
If its a smaller game just learn all locations in your mind.
Cheers.
Lol, thats the first thing i thought of. Luckily found an overworld maps for hunting down the collectibles.
>you now live in a time when having a physical map or being expected to memorize or draw the layout yourself as you play is a completely foreign concept
Are you a goldfish?
I tried drawing maps but rotation always fucked me up and I could never find my place in the map.
do you also have a lot of trouble navigating in real life?
once i see a place or visit a place, i have my cardinal and relational bearing instantly
i realize that's not normal or common, but i don't think it's normal or common to be this bad at navigating space either
One of the quirks that I loved in etrian odyssey. Making the layout of the map and putting notes. Having a crisp ,clean map at the end was so satisfying
>>game has no map
I despise gps arrows and over the top quest markers, but no map at all is also shit the opposite extreme.
No wonder oldfags love Morrowind so much.
> you now remember phantom hourglass whale map
Yes it's a problem IRL too but google maps makes it manageable.
GPS for when i have never gone to a place myself.
Landmarks every time afterwards. I actually like when games have a map with literally just your location and some town/landmark names.
Back in the day they used to make concise, memorable maps with unique landmarks. Lots of craft and expertise went into making world's before you could just let an AI fart them out at will.
>Back in the day they used to make concise, memorable maps with unique landmarks.
Go play the original Metroid
Metroidvania are shit games in part because they lack craft in their map making. I have always disliked them.
>Metroidvania are shit games in part because they lack craft in their map making
Go play Super Metroid crazy how the same series managed to have both a game that's so bad, and a game that's so good, that they btfo of your statements
How do you all have such a terrible sense of direction?
M8 I can run daggerfall dungeons without a map. Just pick a cardinal direction and keep track of roughly which direction it's in as you play. Unless you have fucking alzheimers your memory should handle the rest.
So basically, you're just spatially retarded.
How do you orient yourself in real life?
By using a map?
a compass
depends on level design. i can navigate most of dark souls well, but FUCK the stonefang tunnels in DeS
im also still not exactly sure how to get to the cat things in darkroot garden, but thats partially because i never have any reason to go there
Google maps
>actually avoid using maps because using them confuses me, relying on memory is a lot easier and can remember every single room and path.
anyone else here in the same situation?
>cat things in darkroot garden
I forgot about them. Aren't they on the path between the Hydra and Sif? I usually get the seal from Andre and go to Sif from that side.
depends on the game. Some games that have vertical layers and expect you to use a 2d topography map to navigate is cancer so i tend to remember landmarks for those kind of games. especially ones where they have shortcuts. I think one of the recent one ive played is MHW? God damn that first map is disgusting to traverse. so landmarks are better to remember the routes in that game for me.
>the cat things in darkroot garden
I swear to god I never find them intentionally. I always end up bullshitting in the gardens and always just stumble upon them. Ive never once actively sought them out.
any game which expects you to make a map irl is trash. give me a way to do it in game like etrian odyssey or miasmata
whats the sauce on this geezer? ive seen him posted for years but i never got the context
