Is it ever gonna happen?
Is it ever gonna happen?
No. Nintendo has only ever done one pro version of a console, the new 3ds, and they only made it to play ports of wii games. That's just not something they're into.
No, 4K for a handheld is fucking dumb.
wow 45 minute battery life!
Speaking of Nintendo habits, 2021 makes 4 years for the Switch so it is due for an upgrade. Especially since it is a handheld.
lol I wish, maybe with AI upscaling since the new nvidia shield has it
>what is the gameboy color
>what is the dsi
>4K handheld
Not for at least 5 to 10 years. Consoles aren't big just for the hell of it, the components are large and you need a lot of energy and way to dissipate the heat. A Pro model or next gen Switch would at best be comparable to a base model PS4 with our current technology.
>2020
If Nintendo was going to release a new console this year we would already know about it.
>Switch Pro
Could happen next year, though by this point Nintendo might just as well tough it out for another year and release a successor in 2022.
That would be amazing. I want better battery too and better joycons and a slightly larger screen and maybe 1080p handheld.
>4K handheld
That's 9 times the pixel count of the current device.
>why can't Nintendo JUST make a powerful console?!?
>wow 45 minute battery life!
With better design, they could reach 4K with the same battery life they have now. It would still be a mobile unit so it wouldn't be big screen 4K though. Still, as someone who has a solid 4K tv and monitor, I can't tell when something is in 4K unless it is side by side with 1080p so I don't know why everyone is so obsessed with it. It isn't like going from SD to HD.
A new version doesn't mean a pro version. A pro version exists to increase power primarily. The gameboy color and dsi added actual new features.
GBC and DSI had better specs than their originals
They were pro
There is literally no difference between 1080p and 4k on the small switch screen. It's not even like there's little difference, there's none.
Nintendo will reach 4k for the console after their next console.
That wasn't the main point of the revision though, which would be the point of a switch pro. They made revisions for other purposes and because tech advanced they stuck the newer tech in anyway. Power is not important to Nintendo. If they did another revision it would be for a new feature like double screen or whatever.
After seeing halo Infinite and realize how low textures and graphics have to be to run it at 4k. No thanks. I'm staying @080p. Holy shit.
the last thing I'm gonna need is 4k, all they have to do is make it as strong as the rog phone
No. Requires an entirely new system-on-chip. A Switch 2 is more likely and much more viable. It's nowhere close to the internal makeup of previous handheld generations that made revisions and "Pro" variants viable.
>4k
>console library is literally direct ps3 ports and game maker shovelware
OH BOY I CAN'T WAIT
>they could reach 4K with the same battery life they have now
No they couldn't, the only way to reach 4K on a portable device would be to turn the Switch into a $3000 laptop, and even then the battery life would be shit.
Hell, I run my galaxy 10+ at 720p resolution because there is almost no difference between anything I've viewed in the multiple resolutions. The thing about small screens is that they already have an absurdly high pixel density so even at 720p you are going to reach a point where most people will not be able to discern the difference. Hell, I'm an inspector with better than normal near vision and can see fine cracks in metal that others haven't been able to see visually. If I can't tell a difference, then most likely if you "can" then it is just a placebo effect from someone telling you the screen is better.
Literally this. Nintendo never makes a pro version of any system. It's due to them not wanting to make their audience feel like they wasted shit on something. It's either a new version of a something(GBC added new features like color, DSI added gimmicks like camera and online shop, New 3DS added more controls)
If anything they're well known for making Lite based systems.
>DS lite
>2DS
>Micro Gameboy Advance
>N2DSXL
>Wii Mini
>Switch Lite
The tegra can handle 4k video playback no problem but even beefy desktop cards choke on 4k 3D. Not gonna happen.
>pro version of console
>old games still only run at 30 fps
For what purpose?
Why the fuck are we talking about 4k? 4K on a small handheld screen is entirely pointless. It's already kind of a meme on a TV but on a fucking handheld it's totally pointless. Your eye can't see the difference between 1080p and 4k at that distance with that small screen. The next switch will 100% be 1080p-1440p docked and 720p-1080p handheld
>Nintendo wasting time and money making 4k handheld which will also jack up the price
Gtfo
This, they make more stripped down versions to sell to poorfags, while they occasionally make enhanced versions for more. Switch probably isn't going to get an enhanced version until at least 2021, if not 2022
In 2-3 generations
For now even high end Grafix cards have trouble with 4K
I honestly just want a TV only switch pro
The PS5 will be able to display 8K for only $400, what's Nintendo's excuse?
>Cloud save and save transfer for Animal Crossing coming out by the end of next few months
Something is happening. Nintendo honestly would not have done anything about cloud saving or save transfers if there was only one Switch planned. However, if their playerbase wants to transfer their library over to a new Switch but can't play one of their most popular games on it without starting over, that would cause issues.
You make revisions to consoles because you've maxed out on people who will buy your system and you're trying to sell new versions to the existing customers. The switch keeps selling, they don't need a revision. Any money spent doing R&D for a revision would be much better put toward the next console.
Bait, not falling for it Snoy.
>vanilla switch is $500 and can barrely do 720p with 20fps and drops
Kek
>tfw my switch is a paperweight until SMTV comes out
Holy fuck do I regret buying this piece of shit
Guessing the next handheld will run something like a Ryzen APU?
My old can play games at 8K @ 5 FPS, doesn't mean jack shit.
Also you are a dumb third world mutt if you think the oven dodgers at Sony are selling the PS5 for $400.
>500
Where?
isn't it 720p right now? why make the jump?
Make it 1080p
I'm sorry. Nintendo does this all the time. There are still people waiting for bayo 3 and metroid prime news. Last generation it was smtxfe, xeno, bayo 2 as the promise games for the hardcore audience. We all know how those turned out.
Series X has 8k
My old 1050ti, fuck.
>4k
this meme needs to die, consoles are going to be stuck at 30 fps forever because of muh gwafix normalfags
if it does it wont be a handheld but a console with a real fan, and it wont be 4k but probably 1080p guarenteed
Well you either get that or Monke at 4K 60 FPS
The upcoming Exynos 1000 (or another SoC in the same family) seems more likely if Nintendo wants to keep the hybrid format and Nvidia has nothing to offer. AMD is making the GPU, so it's bound to get better support for games than some random trash from Qualcomm.
Lmao no it’s not going to be 1080p. 1080p is already extremely outdated and obsolete yet Nintendo can’t even hit guaranteed 1080p NOW. Imagine paying $500 to play games at 711p 20 fps in 2020. Kek
>he doesnt play docked all the time
pathetic
> 4K
Nope. They don't need to make one. 4K gaming isn't feasible for handheld devices when even consoles can't even do 1080p60 yet. $400 for a "upgrade" version that can't detach the controllers is obscene, too.
I don't know why people obsess over resolution so much. 1080p is completely fine. I would rather they put extra performance into making sure the game runs well.
Shouldn't the Switch try and handle 720p before trying 4K?
How does a technologically inept company go form 720p to 4k in a mid cycle refresh?
lol no
>He plays docked ever
How embarrassing.
inb4 some fag mass-replies
>1080p is completely fine
lmao sure if you’re a poorfag
What, so you can run games at 9fps instead of 15fps? What would be the fucking point?
Will Nintendo want to keep with Nvidia for a Super Switch? Do they NEED to, or else it won't work? Is there some kind of agreement with Nvidia that says that a Switch has to be made with their parts?
All Nintendo needs to do with their next console is to ensure:
Every game is 1080p docked
Every game is 720p handheld
Every game is solid 60 fps
8gb of RAM for games instead of 3gb
Controllers don't drift
Better wifi receiver
This 4k shit is a dumb meme
Did they cause older games to run better?
All I know is I bought Civ VI on this thing and I want my fucking money back.
To my knowledge there's no explicit agreement, but the Tegra is pretty much the best option for what they want out of Switch.
To be backwards compatible it most likely needs to be made by Nvidia. The Switch wasn't backwards compatible and it sold though so who knows how much they care about that. In fact in some ways backwards compatibility can be a negative to companies because it makes it harder to sell remasters.
