Yakuza Director Praises Ghost of Tsushima, Says Japan Should've Made It

OH SHIT!

>Ghost of Tsushima is a worldwide hit, and it has been well received in Japan. In a recent Sega livestream (via Hachima), Nagoshi was asked about his thoughts regarding the game’s success.

>“To be honest, we [Japan] were beaten,” he replied with a chuckle. “Yeah, of course, we’re losing. Honestly, I think that’s a game that should be made in Japan.” But, he continued, you can tell that the developers did a massive amount of research.

>“The protagonist [Jin] isn’t a particularly handsome lead, don’t you think? At your typical [Japanese] company, if you showed concept art for a character like him, I don’t think it would be approved.” The marketing team, he continued, would offer all this data stating why such a lead character was a bad idea, and that would be the end of a lead like Jin. Nagoshi thought it was amazing that such a protagonist was the lead character.“All this money and development time is being spent on this middle-aged dude.”

>“There are numerous things I bow my head to, like aiming at setting a game in that time period...I could go on and on,” said Nagoshi. “I feel an earnest sense of a job well done.”

Do you agree with him, Zig Forums? Is he just being polite?

Suck a cock faggot

Can you teach me how user? I know how much of a master you are at it.

Buy a dildo, ideally with a suction cup.
Just practice a lot. Just avoid contact with your teeth and it'll come naturally. Gag reflex will go away naturally if just try deepthroating a little more each time.

So what Japan doesn't believe you can sell a game without a teenager as the MC?

And thus Raiden was born.

Based and deepthroatpilled.

more like japanese MARKETING thinks you can't

remember the SMT devs were fully okay with a 20 something lead in SMTIV: Apocalypse then the producers who were clearly personadrones were like NO WE CAN'T SELL THIS TO LONELY HIGHSCHOOLERS and demanded Nanashi be a teenager instead.

I think he's salty that WHITTU PIGGUS came out with a gritty, historically accurate samurai game that isn't full of twinks and fan service and he didn't.

Literally dabbing on those nips.

MGS2 was fun but back then everyone hated MGS2 it was a bit of a disappointment because we had to play as fucking Raiden and not Snake the entire playthrough.

If I worked on Tsushima and read that line from Nagoshi I would cry tears of joy, he's a legend.
It really is interesting seeing so many Japs call the MC ugly though. He doesn't look particularly ugly at all to me. Makes me wonder what the characters from the game would look like if you kept all the designs as they are but let Japs do the face.

Explain this gif. I feel like it might be interesting to read about.

Could we get a localisation of Yakuza Ishin now that he know the west like medieval Japan better than Japan itself?

>I think he's salty that
I think you're retarded
>It’s the kind of work made by non-Japanese people that makes you feel they’re even more Japanese than us. I think it’s amazing. We often believe Western people would never get certain Japanese things, but the game shows this way of thinking is wrong in the first place.

Why do you think ninety percent of their output involves the same exact fifteen year old anime boy with short brown hair comes from? MGS:2 is the most infamous example, where the staff got a letter from a girl who complained about playing as 'an old man', Snake was like mid-thirties and very handsome at this point, and thus they made an extremely effeminate white haired pretty boy his successor. If Ghost of Tsushima came out from a Japanese developer he'd have been 16 and have long, flowing hair. It's interesting that Nagoshi points this out because he's one of the few developers working in Japan on a massively successful IP where the protagonists are consistently old dudes.

You have to remember though being very feminine and pretty has been in for a long time in japan now, Jin is far from either of those things.

Guy getting stabbed was a commie getting popular in japanese politics. Guy stabbing him saw what commies did to other countries when they gained power, and decided to put a stop to it.

Socialist politician assassinated on live television. Look up Inejiro Asanuma

The mc being Japanese is way more important. Good luck making a non-japanese mc popular with Japanese audience.

a commie got stab

I mean, Ishin isn't exactly 'gritty' in the sense that it's got the typical Yakuza playfulness in it, but he definitely did make a fairly grounded samurai game. The West just didn't get it. It's funny though, a lot of the praise from Japan tends to come with a caveat of
>Why didn't Japan make this!?
Like the idea of making a more grounded samurai game that emulates Kurosawa and samurai cinema was so fucking foreign to everyone until SP decided to do it that Japan is floored they never came up with it first.

>Yakuza director

the plastic face fagget that ruined the series and made it shitty turn base and also bending over to trannies

Here you go.

True but they have to realize the setting the game is in. Would be fucking weird if the MC looked like a J-pop star

Even for man? Why? They seem to pretty proud of their history/nationalistic. Don't they fucking love Nobunaga?

But I guess the characters in Sentai are all pretty young.

Attached: Odanobunaga.jpg (1200x1313, 1.13M)

A friend explained it to me as them saying 'he's ugly/not pretty' being just a weird case of Japanese not really translating well into English. They don't really mean it as a dig in the way we would, they just mean it as a basic statement of fact. They don't really have a term for 'rugged' or 'ruggedly handsome'. You're either pretty or you're not. Nagoshi doesn't exactly make pretty boys the leads in his game either, so I doubt he means it as an insult. It reads more like he's impressed that a game that is so 'Japanese' got to make a protagonist who is just an average dude. Kind of feel bad for Jin's actor though... must be weird to have prominent developers from your racial background remark on how ugly you are.

nope, just make the MC a young dude, bishonen, and it'd be golden

The irony is that Ishin was a literal launch title for PS4 in Japan and they refused to localise it even through the post launch drought of PS4 games.

When they say “ugly” they mean “average japanese or above”. They are fucked in the head in that regard.

Japanese otaku media likes pretty boys almost exclusively, it's mostly a newer thing. Back in the day of Kurosawa and shit, masculine men with rugged looks were fairly common for the roles of protagonist and extremely popular. Anime and videogames are populated almost exclusively with very effeminate men because it appeals to the core group of 14 year old Japanese high school boys.

>Jin
>Middle-aged

What? He doesn't seem that old, mid to late 20s at most.

They couuld have made it if they weren't busy making annual Yakuza titles.

Jin is handsome, nips just think anything masculine is homoerotic for some reason and he's rugged and rough-cut so they'll call him ugly

based

They literally did. Twice.

Great, maybe he will feel inspired and finally made a good game

>Kotaku
kill yourself

>Not sure if the setting would appeal to westerners
This fucking thing pisses me off so fucking much. Where on earth did people get the idea that the west hates Samurai shit? Sure, normies don't like UGUU~ Oni chaaaan~ Anime shit, but we've always loved over the top samurai action in burgerland. They kind of went the way of the Western but just because nobody is making them doesn't mean the appeal isn't there. Why is everyone in charge of these fucking companies so retarded?

Jin is disgustingly ugly though. So are all the women in the game too. Either way it kinda fits that time period so im okay with it. You cant expect amazing looking people during an invasion on an island cutoff from the mainland.

Socialist politician who was inspired by Soviet Communism and called for Japan to incorporate some of their social security measures alongside more controversial things. That dude that flew in was a Japanese teen nationalist who hated the dude for turning away from Japanese ideology and political ways, so he assassinated him. 1950s-1960s Japan was a turbulent time where the transformation from feudal to modern Japan was still ongoing. It was such a difficult transition that many famous writers and politicians killed themselves during this time, unable to handle the change. The teenager was one of those people, who not only did not like Socialism, but the metamorphosing political system as a whole. He would have gone and killed politicians of other branches if he was not arrested then.

>nip marketers don't understand that even normies in the west are obsessed with samurai shit
fucking idiots. they never heard of Wu-Tang clan? everyone loves samurai shit

It's Nihonjinron.

>Jin is disgustingly ugly though
he looks pretty average. definitely not ugly. would love to see a picture of your face in comparison lol

Attached: file.png (1280x720, 2.3M)

When Yakuza Ishin came out the only other samurai games are samurai warriors and way of the samurai which didnt exactly sell massive numbers so I assumed someone at accounting convinced them not to do it.

geez it's weird seeing posts like this

jin is fine but yeah the women are fucking disgusting, all of them, typical western trash

>Jin is disgustingly ugly
Fucking what? He's a pretty rugged guy but he's far from unattractive. Anime has rotted your brain, stupid nigger.
>Shit games with this setting didn't sell well so clearly this game won't do well either!
Fucking God, this logic baffles me, it must be related to corporate politics.

East Asian beauty standards has skin tone be one of the identifying ways of knowing someone's age. They're not like other races where they start wrinkling in their late 20s/early 30s, but instead their skin gets darker. That's why they focus on skin lightening beauty products. Once you figure that out, it's really easy to tell an East Asian's age by their skin tone.

Nioh is probably one of the ones better for not making everyone incredibly feminine and beautiful though they still are in comparison. Look at Mitsunari Ishida in games like Sengoku Basara.

Remember when the Weebs on here were saying the Japanese would hate it?

Archive link, or no read.

B-But a lot of white game journalists said that it's a bad game because it's basically culture appropriation of the Japanese people. This Nagoshi person is clearly a racist.

Also, I just finished playing The Last of Us Part II and it's one of the best games I've ever played in my life. I have no doubt this will be the game of the year. Absolutely incredible. Must buy, 10/10.

He just admit Japanese people are naturally unattractive because Jin is as Japanese-looking as it gets. Squinty eyes, round face and all.

>tiny eyes
>tiny mouth
>gigantic nose

is oda the anti anime?

Japan's liberal use of historical figures with retarded anime designs is really weird to me. It's like if Americans made a game where George Washington has long flowing white hair and a pretty boy physique, fighting King George in superpowered sword duels where they throw fireballs at each other and do backflips and shit.

japanese people are so dumb

Sounds like this is how the west is going to SJWify Japan. By making Japanese setting games that force Japan to adopt SJW culture.

Attached: tifasip.png (1528x873, 2.16M)

Don't forget that Star Wars, the biggest fucking IP in history, is all about space samurai.

I mean, have you looked at protagonists and heroes in Japanese media?

Asian americans (koreans) are the ones who complained about the cultural appropriation of the game though.

Attached: IMG_2704.png (589x496, 283.67K)

Considering the amount of plastic surgery he's had this is probably the case.

It was turbulent times.

>Ishin isn't exactly 'gritty' in the sense that it's got the typical Yakuza playfulness in it, but he definitely did make a fairly grounded samurai game. The West just didn't get it.
They never even released Ishin the west the dumb bastards.

I must honestly say GoT looks pretty cool from every aspect.

BUT after reading that SuckerPunch had the choice between 3 different settings:
>Pirate
>Three musketeers
>Feudal Japan

I`m pretty dissapointed they didnt take Musketeers because i would that probably a little bit more.
This setting is so underused and i`m currently reading the books and it is funny and entertaining as fuck

Way of the Samurai is a great series, it's just not high budget, and they never ever advertised it. In fact, I remember the old Zatoichi movies being advertised as slasher flicks, which was the wrong way to advertise the movies.

I know they see they are just marketing the games wrong. We didn't get Capcom's EX Troopers, and a ton of Dragon Quest games because they act like marketing is too hard, when it is simple.

There is an interview with the guy that directed FFXIII-2 where he pretty much says he thinks Japanese are ugly, and it's why they need flashy haircuts and outfits.
