That's not news. Very few games and absolutely no Triple A games have ever reached a higher level than"popcorn cinema" and it'd be more worthy of an article if one actually did. And I'm not even meaning to be condescending here, Triple A games have arguable become better at being popcorn cinema than actual popcorn cinema recently. But right now there's just not an audience or an industry for high budget, high brow gaming. No ones gonna give the developers of something like Killer7 or Pathologic a Triple A budget to work with.

It's the basis for Fistful of dollars and a lot of spaghetti westerns, so naturally it just feels like a western.
The sequel is Sanjuro which has a scene that inspired every anime's use of excessive blood spurt fountains thereafter -- it was due to a technical error that they just kept in because the actor was so surprised by the malfunction and amount of blood that it looked like he was surprised about dying.
Seven Samurai inspired every "putting together a team" shit ever, but its 3.5 hours long and was pretty dull

Man the left was absolutely hell bent on hating this game and it's funny watching them scramble for new reasons to hate it. First they were made because it was cultural appropriation because a western studio full of *gasp* white people can't direct a game about Japanese history, so us the bastions of human decency we are will be offended on behalf of the Japanese and hate this game for no reason.
Fastforward a few years, then the game comes out, everyone love it and most of all the Japanese, Fumitsu gives it a perfect score and it's third western developed game in history to get one.
Now the narrative is the game is too imperialistic and doesn't explore historical injustices committed by the Japanese to upon the Mongolians, Koreans, Chinese, and other Asians. You just can't win with these people, once they've decided it's a bad game it's a bad game to them forever.
