Will it be good?

any gameplay?

Is it another remake? I'm tired of seeing them. The culture around the video games has exhausted itself and has retreated to that old age where old things get recreated, but nothing new and superior is made. Not that this is the universal rule, but in the last decade the increase of remakes and such has become more frequent.

Protag's a lady so not a remake.

Alright. I hope they do away with some of the regressions from the original game such as the inability to do anything to fight back.

But that's what makes frictional horror games actually good.

Frictionals make enjoyable games to the best of their ability, so it will be at least good.
Now if only all the kids who expect their every game to be a streamer jumpscare bait just fucking died from chinese virus.

Probably not. Wasn't A Machine for Pigs garbage?

A Machine for Pigs was made by different devs. The last game they made was SOMA, which was great.

Frictional hasn't made a bad game yet, so probably.

>Wasn't A Machine for Pigs garbage?
Where does this meme come from? It's not as good as ATDD but it's hardly a bad game.

t. chinese room

*they being the devs of Rebirth, not the Machine for Pigs devs.

No but admittedly I have low standards.

>Penumbra Overture
Good
>Penumbra Black Plague
Great
>Penumbra Requiem
Okay
>Amnesia
Incredible
>SOMA
Incredible

Yeah, I'm thinking it will be good.

Not really, they're not very scary because of that. Ooooh big scary monster, it's either sit in a corner or try bunnyhopping across the map. Even the original RE games with it's shit voiceacting and nonsensical story was more tense and scary due to limited resources and quick decisions to take on enemies for potentially no benefit for the loss of ammo, healing items, possibly your progress from last save, etc. Going past the first room the whole OOOOHO WWWWWWWWWWINNDDD gets old pretty fast. I actually liked some of the jump scares they put in because they were a break from the LE FUCKED UP CAEMRA MAN. If anything fucked up camera meant that it is more of a cinematic than gameplay experience because you know for game reasons the game won't put enemies, make you do anything while you're slumbering on the floor. It's a decent game, but it inspired a whole generation of people that don't really like horror and prefer these kind of more neutered experiences.
Amnesia was the first jump scare bait game, user. How do you think Pewdiepie got famous?

Do you not understand the purpose of horror games? Wish granted, you can fight back however you take a massive hit to sanity and it is largely ineffectual.

Cautiously optimistic, hopefully they remember to include some GAMEplay in their videoGAME
Also
>woman protag

Gameplay? It's a horror walking simulator.

I'm tired of you "fightback" morons tbqh, their formula can and will work if developed with talant and care.

It was fucking boring. Only time of my life I legitimately fell asleep when playing a horror game.

no puzzles whatsoever

What are you, literally narcoleptic?

I played it for like 2 hours and stopped. Didn't have the same tension or atmosphere of the original.

Im sure it will be. They're bringing back the core features of Amnesia TDD and expanding on it and cut on random notes to tell the story.

Also I have a hunch one of the features of the game is that the protag is gonna be pregos with some evil baby and the lower your sanity is the more it grows and it kills you at max insanity

yeah, however, in Penumbra: overture, the enemies are only scary until you learn how to control your weapon and get over how clunky it is, after that you can easily take them out and it loses a lot of it, too. From my point of view, Black Plague was better for not having any direct ways to defend yourself.
I think the "no carried weapons" thing can work. It can probably work best if you have a chance to use the environment to kill the enemy every once in a while, so that you're not forced only to sneak and hide or run.

>go in dark area
>lantern starts flashing
>''OHHH BOYYYY WATCH OUT THERE BUCKO THERES A DANGEROUS PIGGORINO IN THE AREA!!!''

Fucking lame

Do you know what "only time of my life" means?

>They're bringing back the core features of Amnesia TDD
How do you know? I haven't seen any news besides the initial reveal trailer, have they put out a blog post or something?

It is not very scary not being able to resist or do anything besides hide. It might be IRL, but in a game it translates to extremely boring gameplay. No one is asking for the game to play like Doom.
Whole point is that Amnesia was never that good. It's not very scary. It's not that interesting and at times the plot made very little sense to me. Also it suffers from the same pitfalls as any fiction by H.P. Lovecraft: it boils down to "scary, unintelligible thing that is so unintelligible you DIE SEEING IT" or "THEN THERE WAS IT: THE HORROR OOOAAAOAOAOOO".
>game with shit gameplay turns out to be a mediocre, shitty game
I don't disagree that it was shit. Black Plague was annoyed at bits because I couldn't get rid of the janky, shitty monsters and just deal with the sections in peace. Instead I had to bunnyhop all around the map. I have to admit it was hilarious at least lol.

All the teasers they shown are deliciously spooky. I really hope the game really captures that
