How come there's so many OoT mods coming out nowadays?

People who played it when they were kids grew up

It's a coincidence that Kaze's mod was released recently as well. This mod was in development for years way before Kaze started his mod I believe.

yes, I'm one of them. But as far as I know, mods beyond simple texture swaps were unheard of until just very recently.

The modding scene is exploding as more people are getting interested into emulation with releases of OOT online and ModLoader64 which always multiplayer for OOT, Mario 64, and Banji-Kazooie. Maybe people are sick of mediocre cash grabs that are the new AAA titles and now the community is coming together to make fun and soulful games again.

I'm well aware of all that, but since when have we had modding tools that enables all this to be made?

Holy shit this looks good. I think I need to get one of these adapters. Or maybe I just play with Wii U Pro Controller

3 or 4 years now for most mapping tools.

How do you get into modding and hacking roms? Secrek discord clubs, or are there websites and wikis somewhere? Particularly for coding.

One sperg probably is just posting alot after discovering it

whoever directed this trailer is a HACK

The Hylian Modding discord is a great resource for help on Zelda 64 modding. Lots of developers on their and they can probably lead you to other modding discords if you ask. Click the discord link in their Twitter account bio for the discord link

Does this run on an actual N64? I know Nimpize adventure did, I put it on my everdrive and had some fun with it, but I've been having trouble with some other games like Paper Mario and SM64 mods

There's potential for such mods with Wind Waker now too, like this one even if it's unfinished: youtube.com/watch?v=XpKHj7DGH-Y

I would love to see a Wind Waker hack that has nothing to do with sailing and is more grounded like OoT / MM.

So what are the best OOT mod/romhack?
I must've finished the game at least 20 times by now, I got the itch to replay.

OOT randomizer

ive always wanted to explore the hyrule below the ocean.

Can't patch a .v64 ROM. How do you do that? Also my emulator is ancient. Not too much into emulating these days.

Hahahaha
Wow, strait away telling you what link is thinking and doing.
Why would people change the zelda formula like this

I heard some modders wanted to look into doing just that, the problem with the game is that it doesn't have much memory available, so the map might have to be cut down in chunks if you really wanted as much interactivity as possible in it. The ocean works because islands are not loaded in memory until they are within a certain distance, same goes for dungeon rooms that Link isn't present in.

>First comment is someone who wants to speedrun it.
Fucking trannies.

It needs to be the .N64 or the .Z64 version of the Ocarina of Time 1.0 rom. Just Google that and PJ64 for the most recent version of the emulator and you'll be good.

Heh, nothing personell kid.

>been into ROM hacks since I was like 10 in 2003 if not earlier
>feel like they're finally getting more recognition instead of being some super obscure nerd shit
Feels good bros.
If only there weren't so few good SMB1 or even SMB3 hacks.

We hit that milestone a while ago. The game is 23 years old. A lot of people who grew up with OoT are bordering middle age now.

Nimpize Adventure is a good one. Check the Hylian Modding discord for a big list of hacks to you can try.

Does this work on actual hardware?

According to someone on the discord. They tested it on Everdrive and it works.

>fan mods

If there were enough good full-scale ROM hacks, they would've been the only thing I'd been playing for the rest of my life.

NINTENDO

Looks like trash

I remember playing Twilight Princess and riding around Hyrule feeling sad that everything I saw was going to be underwater. This was before I found out about the multiple timelines.

My only complaint about these rom hacks is that they usually look super ugly compared to the base game.

The texture work doesn't blend well and the colour pallets can be a little wack. I know N64 games are going to have obvious limitations, but art direction is still important.
