Airflow.

do they still have cooling problems

They're ok as a companion to a pc. Would never use one as my main.

okay, literal shit for brains

>look up multiple sites for best laptops of 2020
>pic related is constantly recommended as the best gaming laptop
Almost thinking of biting the bullet. Only $1500 for 16 GB RAM, RTX 2060M and latest AMD CPU and 1 TB SSD. 11 hour battery life when not in game mode, 144 HZ refresh screen. Seems too good for the price since most lappys with the same tend to be $500 - 1,000 more.

>keep seeing this shilled
>it's always the stock photo and never an actual photo of it in use let alone time stamped
doubt

not really, undervolting increases performance and helps cooling
my 9300H runs at 75 degrees max when vidya

They're ok with a cooling pad, highest I ever got was 65 degrees

not really, $1500 is usually 2070 Max-Q territory

>overheats and sounds like a jet engine
>battery loses half the capacity in a year due to heat, constantly being on the charger, and discharge cycles
the gaming laptop curse

Picked up one of those in May. Have a beefier desktop for the actual heavy lifting but this thing is nice for some comfy couch gaming

Dont forget that GPU gets cucked by 10-15% if its not plugged in

No.

Don't be fooled by the fancy label user.

>constantly being on the charger
lmao just take out the battery nigga like lmoa hhahaahahah
>power goes out

Ok but Gears of War is pretty awful now. Look at those faggots.

I own that laptop (legion y540)
They are good
Just one huge ass flaw that Lenovo will not fix it under warranty
The audio will desync from any video you may be watching on the laptop, doesn't matter if it is a file on the computer or from a streaming site
The issue comes from a South Bridge controller fucking things up and you need to update the driver to fix it, the driver will not update on its own via win update or through the Lenovo app that should do that, it is on Intel's and Lenovo website though
So you need to update it manually
After that the audio gets fixed

For 1500 you can get a desktop with a 2070 super. Waste of money

Some people just want mobility, something a desktop cant give.

>same performance but the ability to enable ray tracing
I don't see a problem with this if you just game at 1080p. Obviously a gaming laptop isn't supposed to replace an actual gaming PC, just something mobile if you plan on PC gaming while traveling.

This, also most gayman laptops still come with 1080 displays so 4k gaming on its main display is a waste of power

My point is you shouldn't be fooled into thinking you're getting anything more than a mid-grade last-gen GPU, despite it saying 2060 on the label.

You should buy a cooling pad if you’re gonna purchase a gaming laptop

Lol, this has always been the deal with mobile models of GPUs. They are supposed to be smaller in size but with the power of a desktop GPU that's a generation behind. I don't know anyone who doesn't know this, quit acting like you've just found out the scam of the century with how mobile models are named.

I used to think this then I found out that a laptop at a certain price point is TWICE the price of an equivalent PC build that performs the same. This without being upgradeable and reliable. Try travelling with one of those and it'll barely last 2 years.

Check out the MSI GP65 10SFK model. It’s the same price and you’ll be losing out on SSD space, but it has a RTX 2070M instead. The only thing you might not like is the 10th gen Intel cpu which heats up very easily when it tries to overclock. Luckily, this is one of the few laptops that allows you to undervolt the 10th gen cpu via going through the BIOs and enabling it. Also, you can just upgrade the SSD to a larger one later.

My thinkpad p52 works fine for anything that came out until the last ~2 years. I don’t know why it has that retarded “boost” mode. Just setting the Mac processor state limited to 99% took care of that problem

I travel constantly with an HP omen, still works just fine, 3 years in

I use one of these amazon.com/gp/product/B014F4SBMK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Also, if you don’t mind a cheaper chassis, you can get the GL65 model instead. Will save you a 100 bucks you could throw to a better SSD.

Is it a noticeable difference? I can’t ever take reviews at face value when some people say they help and some people say it’s a negligible comfort of 2-5 degrees
