I really wanted to like this game. I can only play MHW for so many hours but Dauntless is so F2P quality that it hurts. Sound design especially weighs it down. It feels like you're swinging foam at cardboard monsters.

Xeno'jiiva had a cool aesthetic why did they turn him into a generic red dragon?

I like how Dauntless has a fraction of the content, but still has more variety in the hunts because 90% of them aren't dragons.

Because he was a freshly hatched baby. It’s a combo of a lizard and bug when it comes to its life cycle. Mother lays egg, it hatches and finds a place to form a cocoon, out of the cocoon it’s like a caterpillar (fake extra eyes, soft exterior, etc), and then it finds a place to nest and terraform to absorb energy and molt repeatedly until it forms a hard carapace and looses its baby features. And maybe it eventually “dies” and hatches from it’s red form into a smaller black and glowing dragon form. Though that last part is just speculation

Good, MH lore is unimportant to the overall experience and is designed for you, the player, to elaborate upon with your own imagination. Frontier had Duremudira though, who IIRC was implied to be man made.

Don't hurt me this way. I've wanted it, and more lore on the ancient civilization, ever since I was first exploring that shit without an internet connection and only my thoughts. Seeing the EDW years later only spurred my curiosity and interest.

Anyone else feel kinda sad for the Dauntless devs because they are admitted fans of the MH series and while goal was being it to the west in the form of a major indie heavily MH inspired pc/console game. But then world comes out and sells gang busters and shadows every other clone of it. So then the devs are like “hey we can still be the only MH experience on pc and get a fan base that way” but then World releases on PC, and even with a shitty port launch over shadows dauntless completely. So now they’ve sold out to epic and doing heavy f2p to try and recoupe their losses and try to catch the crowd that likes world but were so shit they got filtered by low rank anjy

I disagree. The easiest way for me to explain it is for me to use shitty buzzwords. MHW unironically feels soulless and cheap, too clean and casualized. Older monhun titles had, and still have, this air of mystery about them. Something that draws you into the world rather than making it about the gear grind.

It’s legit just some concept user and nothing more. The whole idea was scraped before MH1 even released. Now a ancient civilization did exist and fatalis did destroy a castle, but it wasn’t THE ancient civilization and their castle, if that makes sense? The story now is glorified park ranger and the story that world and iceborne introduced. If you care about lore so much there is the “tale of the five” that’s actually in game lore and is a fun read and canon
