Cool bait, but responding in earnest here; this is only a problem in like, Street Fighter 5.
Hell, I'd say that last generation the west has had a fixation on not designing those characters. They instead wanted to design characters that looked like cooler versions of the people playing them (i.e white guys with brown hair). Nothing necessarily wrong with that, but there are other combinations and whole other types of characters that work just fine. There's a fair amount of variation within any group; obviously with white guys included. I guess people don't respond as well to change there. The red headed dude in the new star wars was shit on by people from time to time when that released.
