ptsd, survivor's guilt

Came to say this

Holy fucking based.

>brown hair
Eh

>what was her mental illness?
Psychosis as a symptom of PTSD, originally from surviving the fire, in the second game triggered by the sexual abuse.
Although a lot of the story should be taken as metaphorical. PTSD can result in psychotic episodes and even catatonia (suggested by her hospitalization at certain points), but not with visual hallucinations - only adutory ones.

hahaha yes.
now lets jerk off back-to-back like kings.

No shit, Madness Returns may genuinely be the most edgy, depressing and dark shit I've ever seen in commercially released videogame.
Shame it's also half-nonsense. But then again, I suppose that can be blamed on the massive cuts and budgetary restraints - the last third of the story was literally gutted and then hastily stiched together from whatever was left.

yep based

fpbp

Wait, really? Is it known what was supposed to happen during the last third? Story? Plot?

it rymes with grapes.

>Is it known what was supposed to happen during the last third? Story? Plot?
We don't have a clear idea of what was supposed to happen, but we know that it wasn't supposed to happen the way it did. The story completely falls apart towards the end, breaking it's own rules. It's been a long time since I played it, and I'm hazy on the details, but I remember the whole rules of what is real and what isn't being completely fucked in the end, including the literally nonsensical ending.

The gist of the story - the idea that Alice was being raped by her therapist, who also happened to be the murderer of her family - was presumably always the intended story. However, the details of how Alice faces this, how she gets out of the hospital, and how it all ends were fucked in the process.

>Hey, Eliot Rodgers here...

Ah, I see. Shame. Thought it was at least leaked or mentioned by mcgee or something.

Absence of father.

having her sequel be bad

sad

She pushed Bumby under a train while wearing her wonderland outfit.

>sexual abuse
Alice wasn't the one sexually abused, it was her older sister whom she heard getting raped and murdered, although she didn't know it at the time since she was a child and was in another room.

>Ah, I see. Shame. Thought it was at least leaked or mentioned by mcgee or something.
McGee talked quite at lenght about the sheer amount of cuts they had to make in the game. I remember reading a long and quite detailed interview with him on the subject. It mentioned many things (again - ages ago, hazy on details) including entire cut stages, cut bosses, cut mechanics, necessity to massively re-use assets, enemies and locations, and featured ton of concept art related to those:
But it did not specifically address the plot itself. Presumably also to avoid spoilers.

Again - I'm pretty sure one of the problems was that there was shit like Alice being shown to be catatonic, straight-jacketed in a mental hospital, but then after she gets out of the Wonderland, she is suddenly out in the city again with no explanation and stuff like that. Just clearly cut elements.
The fact that in the end she somehow ends in the real world interwined with her Wonderland also just does not make sense and the game does not explain it, which I'm pretty sure was just because they wanted to make a conclusion while reusing assets and be done with it. Or maybe it was supposed to be sequel-bait but they realized there probably isn't going to be one and cut the actual bait part of it.

Romanticized schizophrenia and ptsd

>Alice wasn't the one sexually abused, it was her older sister whom she heard getting raped and murdered
So was Alice and literally ALL of the kids in the orphanage. Sure, the guy originally raped her sister, killed her and set the whole house on fire to remove the evidence: But after he joined the orphanage, he used hypnosis to rape and sell for sex all of the children. The whole symbolism of the train and the imagery of the final world clearly shows that Alice was no exception.

My exgf liked this shit. It's fine when you are girl and 14 years old. Otherwise seek help.

The game about child rape is fine when you are 14 years old girl?
Admit it: you have NO CLUE what McAgee's Alice was about.

I remember getting the vibe that Alice was being raped right after the first therapy session. There was some ominous dialogue with some of the NPCs in the area I think. Been too long since I played it to remember clearly though.

Mcgee's Alice was NOT about child rape, that was only retconned in by the sequel.
A sequel that gets all the attention despite being much worse both as a story and as a game than the first.

It makes me wonder if the people who make these threads have even played them.
