The grug part of my brain thinks there is a certain prestige attached to exclusives. The exclusivity makes them just that much more special. It's probably bullshit but a game being built from the ground up to a specific system has a higher chance of being quality, i think. Just look what Sony's first party are able to do on a technical level compared to third party devs.

Video games arent guaranteed to make money, just like music or paintings, videogames can be shit or niche and unappealing to wider audiences. If studios want to survive they need money for food and if they want to make their next installment they need substantial profits.
