Pretty much everything from the new games is better. It's one of the only remakes that retained the sould of the original. I suspect having dragon fucker scalies for devs helped.

The original is a more fitting design desu. He's pretty much the least threatening villain of the trilogy, even though he has the most personality. He doesn't cause any of the problems in the individual levels that Spyro solves, his villainy amounts to bullying the main cast. As soon as Gulp eats his scepter and he loses his only means of defense, he cowers inside the castle basements instead of facing Spyro. He has an autistic meltdown when he gets called a manlet. Having him look like a cutesy muppet fits with the theme of him being an ineffectual and sympathetic villain, a guy who has dreams of grandeur but so far only managed to accumulate two dumb oafs as followers. They tried to make the redesign too sinister with his sharp teeth and reptile eyes. Also

That's not old Ripto. That's shitty ETD Ripto. THIS is old Ripto. Personally I think they made Ripto a little too realistic looking in the remake. Spyro, Gnasty Gnorc, and The Sorceress all had cartoony designs that fit Spyro's world pretty well. Ripto just looks odd compared to the rest of them
