Just beat this game last night for the first time. It's definitely rough around the edges and made me frustrated at times, but I still enjoyed myself. What do you all think of it?
Super Mario Sunshine Thread
I think one of the things this game does best is movement. Mario feels so acrobatic in this game, he moves exactly how you want him to. Except when you're climbing or in Noki Bay. Fuck Noki.
I loved it. The levels were all so much fun to run around in. Music was great too.
Except for the hotel one FUCK THE HOTEL ONE IT FUCKING SUCKS.
I ended up just doing the speedrun trick where you use the banana to clip through the glass for that one mission. Overall though yeah the hotel is miserable
god yeah the music in this game is great. especially that one underwater theme, i could have that on while i sleep.
i didn't have much trouble with noki? what were you having trouble with
I'd rather they make a Sunshine 2 than to remake Sunshine 1
Have different islands with different ecosystems and themes
Have FLUDD spray different things that interact with the different island's environments
Give Yoshi's juice new uses, like making walls sticky and walkable
I would cum in my pants if they did that. they won't though
Problem is if they ever made Sunshine 2 it wont really be "Sunshine." There's no chance they would ever design a game like that again, from the aesthetics to the bizarre difficulty curve, the blue coins, etc. If they made Sunshine 2 it would be Sunshine in name only. Instead of all being generally tropical themed there would be an ice island, a lava island, a desert island, etc.
Imagine being on an ice island and climbing up a wall by spraying water to make icicles as stairs, or imagine being on a Fire/Lava island and using the Hover Nozzle while your tank is full of oil to get a super fast jetpack
That'd be awesome
Sunshine was great and kinda difficult. I wish Nintendo would go back to that design
Oh, for sure. Sunshine is great because in the "secret" levels you can't cheese jumps just by doing the dive shit you can do in odyssey. Requires actual platforming skill.
I really like it. The movement is great and I love the cohesive visual aesthetic of Isle Delfino. I wish it was longer and had more areas.
Best mainline Mario game
Fucking fight me fags you know I'm right
noki bay is my favorite zone
Same.
I'm kinda surprise they haven't made a sequel to this game despite having quite a large cult following.
There's very little you could do with the concept that they didn't already do. Tropical island is too limited as a setting and the fludd is a very restrictive gimmick with only so many possible gameplay uses.
No need to fight, that's a valid opinion
Nah you just have a bad imagination. There's still plenty of stuff they could do.
I think I'm in the minority for preferring to be kicked out of the level after every mission.
I can see why it was frustrating in 64, but in Sunshine most of the NPCs have new dialogue and are doing new things with slightly altered stage layouts every mission. It adds a sense of progression. Rather than collecting all the Shines in a level, I feel like I'm solving the local problems of each world. On the first mission, NPCs do not want anything to do with Mario but by the final mission they are often throwing parties and welcoming you warmly.
This game, more than any other Mario game, makes Mario feel like a genuine hero. Saving Peach isn't a totally selfless act since it means getting a crack at that pussy in the end. But helping clean up Noki Bay or saving Sirenna Beach from ghosts feels like hero work. Super Mario World sort of has this feeling since you are helping Yoshi save the other Yoshis.
Odyssey was a nice return to a storytelling focus in Mario. These games prove that you can have the simplistic "save the damsel" plot without having to make it completely barebones like the NSMB games do.
I just wish Odyssey was a better game as a whole. It had a lot of neat ideas for the franchise that feel in line with what Sunshine was pointing towards. I still prefer getting booted out of the level back to an iconic hub world, but Odyssey worlds do change around you and introduce new NPC dialogues as you collect the story driven moons. It's not the same, but it's close.
Both games feel like you are playing through a Saturday morning kid's show. I mean that in the best possible way.
Sunshine > Galaxy > SMB3 > Odyssey > Galaxy 2 = 64 > Doki Doki > World > SMB > NSMB U > NSMB Wii > SMB LL > NSMB > NSMB 2
as a gamecube baby this will always be my favorite mario
YADA BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH
I miss him
same, did he die of old age or something? when's his last appearance
Mario and Luigi: Dream Team in 2013
Followed by him as... a spirit. in smash bros
A g-g-ghost?
Shit taste
this game was a lot of fun but three things have always stuck with me ever since this game came out
>this game makes me thirsty as fuck everytime i play it
>why does mario jiggle so much like he is made of jello
>why do i have to play this every summer and then never touch it again until next summer.
The hotel has top atmosphere but some really hit or miss levels :(
