I only played the game since I'm not a faggot, so my experience was that while the pokes, commentary, subtext etc. was hammy and tactless, it was fun and kinda interesting for a game bought for ten eurobucks and played through in one sitting.

Metal Gear Solid has now had 3-4 games of straight nothing but "Let me end the fucking series. War bad."

I liked the way it told the story and how you could notice yourself going insane very quickly. The problem is when it's trying to put player and character on equal moral ground. As if choosing to phosporus some pixels over stopping to play the game makes the player ''in-universe'' evil. I liked the story but I hated the loading screens with ''you are still a good person''. Luckily on my first playthrough I was too thick to understand they meant you, the player, and thought they meant the character because I was immersed...

I think they differ enough that they aren't even really worth comparing. Apocalypse Now is not exactly a true to the source adaptation but it's still good in it's own way so you can't really hold that against it.

Infinite at least doesn’t pretend it’s making some big meaningful artistic statement about the state of the real world like Spec Ops does.

Bioshock Infinite was not pretentious, it was bad.
