I really dig this game, as much of a GOW clone as it was. I liked both.

it's the best hack and slay there is better than DMC.

I wonder what they would do plot-wise with a Purgatory game.
For example, the final boss would probably be fought in the Garden of Eden (which would be kind of cool). But who would it be?

This game really needed another year or so or development.

First few levels are all really good. Each area is visually distinct, each circle of hell has at least one unique enemy type. But then it really starts to shit the bed. They stop adding new enemies, just old ones with beefed up stats, and level design gets lazier. One of last circles of hell is litterally an identical arena and hallway copy pasted 4+ times. And there’s less and less representation of how things are described in the mythology. Near the start there’s tons of little things, but they couldn’t even do the giant Frozen Lake at bottom of Hell correctly. It’s an awkward platforming segment, and collapsing bridge and then a boss fight.

It’s a cool game. But they really stretched themselves thin with content ambition.

The art assets are incredible. I bought the ps3 version just to have a digital copy of Wayne Barlowe's artbook.

It's strange that i see this thread as i was planning a d&d campaign about traversing through hell because i have fond memories of Dante's Inferno.

Great game, if a little flawed

Probably Lucifer again.
Apparently you were going to fight both angels and demons in the sequel, and some parts would have taken place in certain bits of hell again. Also it would have resembled Assassin's Creed more than GoW, with a similar climbing mechanic.

It was just shallow. People like to compare it to God of War but those games have much more complexity and more enemy variety. Visceral just weren't cut out for this type of game.

Imagine a propper Berserk game with this budget and direction
