In hindsight, the decision to replace David Hayter doesn't seem like it was worth the money, effort, or controversy. Did it make Venom a better character by having a real actor play him? What was gained by this decision?

He was cheaper than Hayter.
the VA union Mafia are expensive as fuck
money because he was cheaper than hayter and venom barely talked at all so it made almost no difference
Kojima never liked Hayter, and was trying to replace him since mgs3. They barely even talked.
Popularity I'd guess. They probably tried to go into normie territory much like the norman reedus decision. MGSV went above 10 million sales right?
go to bed hayter
>real actor
?
Hayter was a real actor before Metal Gear as well what are you on about?
And a screen writer
Hey how do I do free voice work do you know of any projects that need amature English voice acting?
in hindsight it is sad and funny at the same time that people don't credit David Hayter for anything outside of voicework. That is how bad his run has been
Meh
I prefer Sutherland over Hayter. Sue me. Hayter sounds so fucking fake and cheesy.
i want to believe he was replaced because kojima wanted big boss & solid snake to interact on screen fairly soon, either in mgs5 or the next game and they couldnt BOTH be hayter
but in reality he probably just wanted to rub shoulders with someone from hollywood and hated how popular hayter was
I wouldn’t say that it’s just his voice work totally eclipsed anything he did in film
In hindsight voicing him at all seems pointless.
Kojima got to hang out with a real actor.
when will you faggots fuck off with the money argument Kiefer is a fucking z-lister he's in call of duty ffs
Which is a perfect fit for MGS.
he just voiced snakes doctor so it doesnt matter
It gave Kojima more clout with Hollywood, thats all he has ever wanted.
so now it's a game where one character sounds normal and literally everyone else sounds corny
>SUCH A LUST FOR REVENGE
>THEY PLAYED US LIKE A DAMN FIDDLE
>LET THE LEGEND COME BACK TO LIIIIIFE
no
Kiefa-san vely vely suki we nipponji rove 24 rong time supa excellent I put him in gamu
What was the point of having him? He barely spoke. The character had all the charisma of a brick.
Kek
In hindsight that entire game doesn't seem like it worth the money, effort, or controversy. Shit, same applies to Death Stranding.
Death Stranding i think was definitely worth it, in particular when it comes to Mads.
Kojima wants to LARP as a Hollywood movie director and rub elbows with movie stars.
That's probably it, if I remember correctly the Japanese voice actor for Snake and Big Boss stayed the same.
>Did it make Venom a better character by having a real actor play him?
Yes. Hayter's ridiculous voice ruined PW.
fuck you

I agree user, Mads was brilliant in Death Stranding and I’d barely ever seen his work before
Solid and Solidus had the same Japanese voice actor in 2 and it worked well.
Hayter wouldn't be able to pull that off though since he's a fucking terrible voice actor.
The real crime was barely having him talk in the game, his few moments of dialogue were pretty great and it’s a shame Kohima underused him.
Yes, that shit is a great example of how bad he is. It's impossible to take anything he says with that fucking voice seriously. Hayter became a parody of himself.
Mads was great, but Norman Reedus was shit. He just says a line in a completely flat tone every once in a while, he didn't add anything to the character.
Hayter was objectively bad as Big Boss. His Solid Snake was alright though. MGSV is a shit game btw.
Hayter is fucking overrated. His Snake voice is incredibly campy and contrived, sounds like he's always trying to squeeze out a fat shit while talking. Sutherland did a much better job.
yeah, that's why they had venom practically silent the entire game.
Source.
I really doubt about it, Kiefer at one point was the highest well paid actor on TV ever, making 1.5 mil per episode.
Sutherland was fine, if he would have talked more. The whole game is really awkward how he just stands there silently while all kind of weird shit is happening
He had hours of dialogue on the tapes, most people probably skipped them though.
This, it was obvious he was only barely in the game's budget. Hayter would have been shit in this game though, his performance had obviously been degrading ever since MGS1, his peak. If you don't believe me, go back and play through 3/4, there are some fucking clunker line reads in there
Kojima just wanted to hang out with a big action star so he got Kiefer, user.
Yeah i do think Reedus was kinda flat but i'm fine with it with how his character is.
>Did it make Venom a better character by having a real actor play him?
no
>What was gained by this decision?
literally nothing but Kojima stroking his ego
Sure, Hayter is overrated but it's not like his voice acting was terrible. It's just that it's not really hard to find someone who can do gruff stoic voice man so the notion only he could be Snake is just crap. We've heard the Snake voice a thousand times from a thousand different characters. There wasn't anything particularly special about.
X2 and Watchmen.
Like Keifer or hate him, his speech in this one is absolute kino
