Why change the combat to turn-based for Yakuza 7/Like a Dragon?

Why change the combat to turn-based for Yakuza 7/Like a Dragon?
I don't get it.

If I recall it's supposed to be because the main character likes Dragon Quest I think. So it's supposed to be a throwback to that series.

Or maybe it's just to mix things up.

because yakuza has never had good combat except maybe black panther

define "good"
yakuza combat was fun
and now it isn't fun

they ruined a whole game for no reason

either cause they want to do something different, or they know that the dragon engine has shit combat that's not fun to play in any capacity.
either way, i'd rather see them do action stuff on a different engine, since this one has been shit for 3 games now.

Judgment's combat is pretty damn fun. I'll be disappointed if they don't follow up on it with a sequel.

there's already 6 games (7 counting Judgment) that play exactly the same, I'm glad they're changing it a little for the new one

>yakuza combat was fun

define "fun"

why are all the models in the yakuza games so ugly

still suffers from core issues they can't fix, and i don't enjoy far less than the pre-dragon engine games.
doesn't help that the detective shit in the game is beyond boring and mindless, so i won't be upset if we don't get a sequel seeing as it'd be more of that,
good story and characters though.

What I dont get is making an April's fools but then doing it for real.
The actual joke was them going with it?

Jap thugs arent known by their beauty.

Judgment's combat is shit. The crane style and wall jumping mechanic are useless, and tiger style is clunky as fuck because of the constant pauses during the combos. Dragon Engine is shit.

they wanted to alienate as many fans as possible, also to bring in a wider audience. The joker being normalfags don't even like turn-based combat so what's the point

is the turn-based combat interesting in comparison to other turn-based combat games?

*and i enjoy it far less
i dunno why i keep posting this stuff cause it's the same shit every time
i'm outta here!

>people literally have 17 games to choose from to play the basically the same beat em up
>1 game taken a different turn is "where's my combat??"

Is it still in Kamurocho? These games must hold a record of the most reused asset or something

welcome to autism

I don't think people hate change but making a brawler into an JRPG its just weird yknow? if they tried making it into a fighting gmae that might've been cool with ppl

>people have literally thousands of boring turn based animation viewers to play
>some autists think we need yet another one

>520084420
work on your bait kiddo

shut the fuck up you underage retard
sega's jrpgs are fucking legendary

They saw the positive reception the April Fools video was getting and thought it was a good idea to revamp their entire main series to it for some reason not understanding that people liked the April Fools video because they thought it was a Clan-Creator or Battle Dungeon-esque minigame, not a full game.

Ignoring that, it doesn't make sense why they decided to try it on the mainline when they literally had a side game coming out where the main character isn't supposed to be strong and has friends in the majority of his fights helping him out to begin with. It wouldn't even be out of character to try stuff out on the side games.

It has the environment work for or against you and the enemies can interrupt your turns if you run past them randomly. It's actually pretty fun especially if you do manage to knock someone towards another one of your characters which causes them to all get a free turn hitting the person on the ground for crit damage, but apparently until the difficulty DLC comes out it's only hard until it opens up and then you can gamble to get some of the better gear.

>crane is useless
Then why does everybody say Crane is better than Tiger?
>pauses in tiger style
Combo speed boost helps mitigate that. Even with the pauses, Tiger does a shit ton of damage.

no one is forcing you to play this one either

>so weird
>japan

>boring turn based animation viewers to play
>HEAT
>press X to do 5 different animations
>in between doing the same optimal string

>newest game in a long running series with beat-em-up combat doesn't use beat-em-up combat
>wtf why are fans mad???

do Yakuza fans REALLY only play Yakuza and nothing else?

Because there's already like 10 games that play exactly the same.

Nobody gives a shit about Phantasy Star, Shining Force and Sakura Wars in 2020 you retard

>Then why does everybody say Crane is better than Tiger?
who is "everybody" becsuse Ive never heard it said myself

>combo speed boost
even at max speed it still feels clunky and disjointed

>fans mad

April 1st is the new financial year for Japan. Japan played it straight and the west mistook it for an April Fool's joke. There was no joke, they just wanted to mix things up.

They probably got bored of making the same exact game over and over again for twenty years. A new protagonist is a good excuse to change things up.

10% shitty combat, 90% canned animations started from context sensitive qtes

referring to action games it means you get a surge of dopamine that makes you feel good when you're pressing buttons on a controller in a certain and sometimes complex order and your character on the screen performs actions according to your input without delay and in a satisfying way
then again Like a Dragon looks interesting and I'm very curious how it will turn out

>make a spinoff
>give it the exact same combat as the main series
>then completely change the combat system in the next mainline game
What were they thinking?

you literally got 16 games with the same exact copy pasted gameplay
now one game differs from the formula and you whine and whine like a little bitch
fuck off, just don't play it

>Lost Paradise
>Judgment
>Like a Dragon
pretty sure they wanted to mix things up

Sega is Squeenix levels of retarded.

Crane's only better than Tiger if you're in EX Heat because it ignores enemies blocking and does high damage in a large area with every attack. If you're not it's more or less unusable due to every single kick having the chance to scrape one of many enemies and you recoiling from them blocking.

>even at max speed it still feels clunky and disjointed
I never had this issue with Tiger. If anything my issue is the end lag on finishers. Outside of that both Crane and Tiger handle fine to me if a bit stiffer than usual.

Does Yak 7 have grinding though? If it doesn't I might play it.
