Why do indies do so poorly on the switch?
Why do indies do so poorly on the switch?
Make a shit game, get shit sales.
Lets skip to the point, what game is being mentioned specifically here.
because indies, old roms and AAA games are in the same category on switch, so the eshop is filled with real games and shovelware.
360 did it best with the xbox live arcade. when a good indie game actually came out, it stood above the other arcade games. its the reason why people liked shovel knight. it wasn't competing with real games.
Why the fuck does Nintendo allow so many garbage shovelware games on the eshop?
But there's tons of shit games that get good sales. And most of them are the opposite of indie. They're overbudget AAA movie games.
The same reason Sony and Steam does.
Indie = Lowest effort imaginable put into making a game. Shit game in this case = Indie.
Yes but AAA games have massive marketing budgets to trick people into thinking they're good
no no no it's okay when other digital platforms allow shovelware.
we have to EXCLUSIVELY bash Nintendo for it
because people only want bing bing wahoo, life simulator with furries, twink pretending to be a protagonist, and their special "fighting" game.
Funny enough that quote is out of context. The full quote is
>Now I’m stuck in a situation where I may be forced to deep discount on Switch, otherwise I literally cannot sell units on Switch. It’s heartbreaking, and it makes me really sad for the eShop
Aka the dev is a brainlet when it comes to selling games. Several other devs have noted that doing deep discounts pays off on switch cause apparently users just throw money at them. A 90% discount actual made a dev more profit than selling at full price on other platforms
>Indie = Lowest effort imaginable put into making a game.
When an indie team has only 1-5 people doing everything, it's a lot more "effort" than when a company like EA or Squenix just hires 1,000 artists and 250 programmers to crank it out faster.
should have shilled their game on Zig Forums, home of Nintendo
Because it's not Animal Crossing
>Several other devs have noted that doing deep discounts pays off on switch cause apparently users just throw money at them.
And it works exactly the same on Steam, where like 90% of units sold come from sales or discount periods. So yeah, another article that hides the truth. That's what you get from "journalism."
Is this like when "indie devs" complained about Steam and how it had too much shovelware? And then people found their games and they were less than shovelware tier?
If you don't market your game you're relying on the pure luck of someone picking it up enjoying, AND spreading it by word of mouth. That's assuming anyone picks it up in the first place.
nintardos only care about first party baby games
This. Some devs can get away with never or barely ever doing sales, like GTAV staying full price for several years, but those are exceptions.
'member when every game was selling 10x more on Switch that it did on Steam? And all the smug fucking pixelshit devs were so quick to announce that?
>fails to actually name their rancid peice of shit game
Every time.
Happened with Epic as well.
>Wahaa my game isn't selling, praise Epic
>Wahaa Epic won't accept my game despite shilling for Epic on Twitter, praise the Switch
>Wahaa it's not selling on Switch, praise Stadia
At some point they should realize the problem isn't on the platform.
...you single out Shovel Knight, something that released LONG after the XBLA stopped being useful for that purpose? Not Meat Boy, not Castle Crashers, not Trials, not 'Splosion Man?
did you know they just put shovel knight in that new battle toads abortion
>Switch owners are smart enough not to buy this shit
Sounds pretty fucking based to me.
How about no? Cope.
>Joseph Humfrey, co-founder of Inkle (creators of 80 Days and the upcoming Pendragon) and Mike Rose, founder of No More Robots (publisher of Descenders and Yes Your Grace), explain to us how the core design at the heart of the eshop is making it difficult for developers to bring attention to their games, and what can be done about it.
Maybe there's a bigger problem here. Like selling overpriced phoneshit and expecting people on consoles and PC to eat it up.
What game? Reminds me of the Atoi guy complaining about the same thing even though he makes shit games.
People talk shit about all the shovelware on Steam all the time, Toddler
Because there are plenty of AAA games that are worth spending money on
As opposed to what other system? From what I remember, an indie game sold on the Switch sold only 5% as much on the PS4.
People tend to be short sighted and have poor pattern recognition
he's a zoomer. 'indie' now means 'small team of 40+ people crowdfunded to $5million + some money from Sony/MS. But hey at least they self-publish!
Or alternatively, make an indie game interesting enough to be showcased on an Nintendo Indies direct. That shit prints money for indies.
You're beyond retarded.
