>Wizard of Legend
I wish there was a game with its magic combat and some diablo-esque dungeons crawling.
I just want to fight hordes of enemies with some crazy magic spells.
Yeah, it's definetly unique in the amount of ways you can play it from the start.
However, if you do want some crazy magic spells, definetly check out Noita. That game can get way more chaotic and your power potential is near infinite.
Tried out Neon Abyss today and it's really fucking good.
Absolutely adore Isaac but never could get into Gungeon and disliked Dead Cells quite a bit.
Maybe it's because of just how similar it is to Isaac but I'm enjoying Neon Abyss quite a bit so far. First impression was that it's gonna be pixelshit but I was wrong. Gotta see how long lasting it is but so far it's great.
Noita and BoI are probably the ones with the most replayability out of any of the others.
>Noita
I cannot fucking stand the pixelated look of that shit.
try it out
Not gonna lie, I'm really conflicted on this game.
On one hand, it is really good. Due to the way the levels are built, this is probably the most strategic game in terms of managing consumables (e.g. do I blow this chest up, how can I open these rocks using the environment, etc). The wisdom and violence mechanics also add to this.
However, on the other hand, everything else is really bad. The combat is pretty shit, I always feel too slow to dodge basic bullets, the bosses are either journalist mode or undodgable (the fast food pieces of shit). Thankfully, getting a shit ton of items will pretty much mean dealing absurd levels of damage. Two times I dealt so much damage to the 3rd final boss, that he glitched out into the ceiling. This does come with the problem of: bad run = dead run without any hope. The items are mostly repeats of each other. There are obviously some unique ones, but here's 80%
>you now shoot special projectile sometimes
>you gain an extra jump
>gun deals more damage
>add a heart container
>doing X gives a shield
>if pet appears/fails, gain something
It's really annoying to see an item and have it be one of these, because of how uninteresting it is.
Still, it's an ok game. It does some shit terribly, but it hides that with its good progression. I forgot to put it into my list as a B.
Noita was such a disappointment holy shit
I'll probably pick this up on a sale, the artstyle is pretty cute.
Pretty good one. Definetly had some strange charm to it, though it has been a long time since I've played it. The devs also made Roguelands, which is just Magicite, but with way more grinding and no permadeath (unless you turn it on)
i've been playing a lot of immortal redneck recently, got it for a few bucks during the summer sale. doom esque combat and platforming, 3 pyramids to complete, a bunch of characters and weapons to unlock.
the voice acting is also pretty funny
I'm surprised noone mentioned FTL
Unironically, too hard. I really would like to get through the annoying and repetitive early game and experience the good part, but I simply can't on normal. I probably should just try easy, but I gave up on it.
Still, looks like a great game.
Edmund is a very clear adult baby/scat fetishist but damned if Isaac isn't real fun
I like that game but the random scroll shit can be infuriating when you grab some game ending scrolls like take damage every time you jump or other retarded shit like that.
yea exactly that's why i loved it, the way the art was done and the way mechanics were implemented were sweet.
spawning a giant murderous chicken in a peaceful village is a sight to behold
>Risk of Rain 2
I love RoR2 but does it count as a roguelite?
I don't know why but I'm too stupid for Enter the Gungeon. I've played tons of Binding of Isaac and am very good at that game but in Gungeon I always forget that shit like blanks exist, miss time my rolls, etc. The other thing is, whenever I get a new gun or item I get anxious for some reason. There's this voice in my head telling me to conserve my new guns/ammo when I need to be doing the opposite. For some reason I don't have that problem when playing Isaac.
The more you play it the more strategies and things you will discover. You'll find that each individual ship and layout has it's own unique strategy. For the starting ship The Kestral layout A you'll want to save the missiles in the beginning for dangerous encounters only, preferably only using them for ships that have 2 layers of shields or more. Focus on getting the 2nd shield layer as quickly as possible. The layout of the ship makes fires dangerous so a few engi crew members will go a long way. I like to keep engi crew members manning all of the important systems like pilot, engines, weapons, and shields. Hacking, cloaking, and drone control are the best systems for this specific ship. Anyway you can find all of these ship strategies on the wiki here.
>too hard
you haven't played any actually difficult games in your life if you think fucking FTL, the casualized babby mode roguelite, is hard.
Dude you are so cool!!
>Wizard of Legend
Loved the idea behind it but got burned out pretty quickly.
The game does a poor job making the elements unique and giving them different roles that they're better at, most of the time there's only 5 or so spells per element that are the worthy ones for the consistent damage they do. Signatures also felt really uncreative.
And the items. There's like 5 different items that make you into a glass cannon, which always seemed to be the most viable option. I mean, I love glass cannon gameplay, but it's really boring that you have to always go for big damage if you want to have a chance at winning the run and while the game seems to offer a lot of variety on the surface, half the spells are practically reskins.
More like rogue shit
ror2 definitely falls into the roguelite catgory, if isaac and ror1 fall into it
Game is dogshit, only redeeming parts are art/music. Everything else is mediocre.
>He doesn't go for 100% evasion
Hades is probably going to be my 2020 GOTY. Haven't had so much fun playing a game in a while.
Does Inti The Breach count? I've been having a blast with it.
Love Isaac and Hades, couldn't stand Dead Cells or Noita.
>99% RNG
how do people even play this borderline gacha trash? in other games you have RNG as a variable that you should pay attention to but here the entire gameplay is based on RNG. didn't get good items? DEAD, got bad item later? DEAD. didn't keep restarting until you get a good start? DEAD.
btw i played risk of rain 1&2, isaac and gungeon. risk 2 was the easiest while isaac was hardest just because of the huge amount of items that debuff and weaken you
It’s so good
A roguelite (in general) is a heavily skill based game, where you attempt to get as far as you can without dying. After dying, you are sent back to the beginning, however, you may have unlocked something that can help you in your next run. By this definition, yes, it is a roguelite. In general, you should just look at roguelites as games with permadeath and meta progression.
As for Gungeon, what you are describing is just because you haven't played much of the game. For example, remember how when you started playing Isaac, you would always be too scared to use bombs to deal damage and now you may not be? Using temporary items is just what you have to learn how to do and Gungeon is a game that's actually really supportive of this learning. If you didn't know, on each floor you will start with 2 blanks if you have less, so don't be afraid to use all of them. As for guns, I like to use my default gun for normal rooms in the first floors and use special guns for bosses and stage 3 and beyond.
I appreciate the help, but I think I already looked through that page. I use everything you just said (probably at a far less efficient level), but I always run into an enemy that has so many shields, that I simply haven't had a chance to improve my ship enough. I think the furthest I got was system 4 or 5.
The way I did a lot of normal encounters was by baiting as many enemies as I could away from the room. Also, you really don't need to use glass cannon, you can win through skill and normal spells, though I see what you mean.
>every single game I play MUST have mechanics that adhere to strict rules and everything must always do so because I have literal autism
sometimes there's fun within chaos itself. Learn to live a little.
There are countless people with winstreaks of +100 runs.
You're shit at the game, play better.
Came into this thread just to talk about this game.
Like the user before, I'm conflicted too.
This game has made me rage more than any other rougelite out there cause of it's poor gameplay and how it seems like the gods are cockteasing you.
It seems to happen without fail, that whatever sub item you need (bombs, keys) you'll never get enough. You'll come to a level that has 4 locked items and the game will just throw bombs and failed eggs at you, so you get literally nothing out of that level.
Too many runs end up like that, you never get enough bombs or keys to get anywhere, and the power ups you got suck. They either do shit all, or just are your standard "You shoot faster now, lol"
The only time I won this game is cause I got popcorn which makes your bullets explode. More damage, and no need for bombs at all.
Isaac is the fucking goat (especially in terms of replayability) but I hope the DLC fixes some of the shit.
i know, i don't need some casual to tell me that.
>how do people even play this borderline gacha trash?
It's fun
I can't remember where I heard it, but apparently item pools are loosely seeded by synergy. So you might get a run where most of the items are damage boosts, which means far less bomb/key generation items will be available. Would also mean flight synergy groups are possible, basically giving you nothing after the first set of wings.
why isnt there a cute girl gacha-esque roguelite?
