Is a high framerate a meme in videogames?

it's a meme if you are clinically retarded
diminishing returns though, past 240hz you really can't notice

isnt that what they said about 144hz before

Don't most games still run at 60 fps max?

No, it is literally a better experience to be playing with higher framerates in every shape and form

Is there something behind the theory that recorded video looks okay at 24 fps, but once you're in control and can look around as you please 30 fps can't feel smooth at all until you hit 60?

....no? Console games sure, and fighting games need to have a locked framerate to maintain competitive consistency

you can flash a color for 1/1000th of a second and you can tell what color was shown

My favorite is when the consolefanatics get triggered by high frame rates and resort to maximum cope arguments

the game is smooth for me at 60fps so I don't see any reason to buy expensive hardware to get higher

Yes, you only need 5 fps

Recorded video doesn't look okay at 24fps though, watch any panning shot in a film for evidence. They look like stuttery trash and honestly can make me feel sick. Everyone is just used to 24fps and too stubborn to adjust to high framerate cinema. Personally I say bring on the 60fps films

What this retarded picture shows is more persistence than framerate. A properly strobing 90Hz display (as some VR headsets have) can look pretty decent. But most monitors are long persistence which makes anything under 144Hz look like shit.

Perfect motion blur is baked into every frame

I thought the same till my buddy gave me his old 120hz monitor because he's a retard that upgrades every twenty minutes. The difference is pretty noticeable.

I prefer 30fps. I don't like framerates that are higher than the framerate of reality.

Not at all. I switched to PC this summer and am currently playing older games ( Vanquish & Doom 2016 ) that let me easily lock to 144fps ( to match the refresh of my monitor ). After playing consoles my whole life, with mostly crap FPS, this is a massive generational leap for me. The big thing for me is the responsiveness of the controls - especially when using a controller. You can just barely nudge the analog stick and see the slight movement on-screen. Feels great.

desu it's probably like that for 144hz but i said 240 so people who wasted money on a 240hz didn't come after me

Yeah, what's really important is stability.

the moment your eyes see 144hz+ in action you can never go back.
It isn't a meme.

High refresh rate is a real game changer for many titles and is not to be underestimated. The increased fluidity to animation is noticeable and adds much to the experience.

What do you do when a game is locked to 60 fps? Do you just not play it?

It's unironically something you can only informatively talk about if you've experienced it yourself. There is no truly objective way to describe it to someone as other than it promisingly looks smoother. Once you do experience it in person however you will immediately notice the stuttering of slower refresh rates. I can only describe 240hz as a similar jump from 30hz to 60hz. Granted however 30hz to 60hz will easily be the most substantial jump any given person will notice. It will take until a whopping 480hz to notice a similar jump coming from 240hz.

Do you not understand how diminishing returns work? They are in effect between 1hz to 2hz, but the jump from 2hz to 3hz is less noticeable, and so on...

You are a fucking retard. Please don't reproduce.

60+ fps is meme for full single player story based games.
144hz+ fps is meme for almost all games expect competitive esport games

maybe if you're a fucking moron or console pleb whose brain literally cannot comprehend a framerate past 30

It's a real drag playing a poorly optimized game on a 144+hz monitor, where the fps jumps all over the place and goes sub 90fps ( for me that game was Metro Exodus ). Still looks nice, especially with adaptive sync, but yeah like said here earlier.. Once you get that first taste it is hard to go back. Especially with shooter games.

Fluidity basically increases the video quality. Why would you not want better visuals in a single player game?

Name 10 PC games that are locked in 60 fps.

Is this bait?

not him but all dark souls games?

Because it's unnecessary and waste of recourses. I said 60+ fps. Not 60 fps. All games should play minimum 60 fps expect strategy and david cage games.

videos have usually perfect frame pacing so they look smoother, also they add a lot of motion blur but the primary reason games feel like shit at 24-30 is the input lag

you're getting judder retard, switch you tv to 24p

go from 30 fps to 144hz/fps and try going back.

I said 60+ not 60. 60 fps should be norm for every game.

You have to be +18 for this site nigger.

That gave me a headache
