I grew up playing Jazz Jackrabbit in the 90s using A S D and Space for jump.
Made the jump to hitbox for fighting games perfectly naturally.

Arrow keys + spacebar is kino and the way that 2D flash platformers were meant to be played

WASD + Space and Shift for A/B is the optimal layout for 2 button games
WASD + numpad is optimal for most other 2D games.
And who the fuck plays fighting games on keyboard?

In 2d games I just use a controller, if I gave to use the keyboard then I will use wasd to move because character movement was always meant to be on left side starting with arcades.

Keyboard is the objectively superior controller for fighting games, only surpassed by hitboxes and the like because of their comfort

I still play Doom with arrow keys and alt for strafe.

20 years ago I had a keyboard that had an extra set of arrow keys to the left of the letters. was super convenient, before wasd was popular in games. I remember playing the first Unreal with it. Dunno why they don't make keyboards like that anymore.

ESDF honestly looks like it'd be really useful, it's just a matter of trying to teach myself to switch over.
