But as a general rule of thumb, I don't pirate indie games. Basically anything that's triple AAA I do if I want to see how it is. For indie games I'd rather buy and then leave a review based on my experience so the devs can improve or continue to do things.

You do realize that not all indie games are pixel platformers right? That's like saying all AAA games are mindless shooters with unnecessarily realistic graphics - there definetly are some, but that's not all of them now is it?
