I don't think my game idea would actually be fun to play. I wanted to make a marble game like marble blast ultra. But as a multiplayer capture the flag and other arena shooter gamemodes. Because i liked playing the multiplayer modes in Ultra but didn't think it had very good gamemodes or maps.
TLoU2 isnt fun to play and yet its a commercial success. dont focus on the fun part. focus on the saleable part.
>I don't think my game idea would actually be fun to play.
Neither does yay! cake fairy pastels! and yet the retard is still at it.
>How goes that game dev Zig Forums?
Fine, have some texturing and in general 3D modeling issues, but I'm not exactly a designer to begin with, so practice is needed.
>Give up yet? You know you want to
No, I'm actually full of motivation, because I've recently finished the character creator mock-up. I can now move that into the actual project and add an actual UI.
Because of cronovirus I have to redo year 1 at my university for computer science in games, I got first class honour 80% results when they were valid but I don’t know if it’s because it’s a shit course trying to look good or if I am an outstanding student that will go far in game development, what do you anons think?
Sounds cool user. Marble/monkey ball games are a tier. Just do it
I'm trying out some new flight maneuvers for NPCs, what do you think?
I know you're shitposting. But anything advertised for gamers or videogames is retarded bait. Be it gaming products out gaming classrooms. I believe the only specialized gaming classes are introduction to programming using a game engine for children. Or a general how to use software training course, which are usually only two weeks rather than an entire semester. Basically you're wasting your time in a meme.

yay!
post your code
Thoughts on Shrimp Battles?

we had this thread like 20 minutes ago
Game dev classes are a fucking joke, and why I refuse to work with groups, storytime:
>College final for 3D model class is to put together a fully done, scripted out animated scene of at least a minute or longer.
>Pairs us into two halves of the class as groups, each one is designated roles on the team
>I'm absent the day roles are handed out due to sickness, so I end up with scraps, luckily
I got prop modeler, which I wanted in the first place.
>Excited about this project, everyone comes up with a story together about a robot doll escaping a factory, things seem okay
>Spend all my free time pumping out models, build the assembly line scene and all the factory assets
>Continously send model after model to the google doc to the point my project manager says Ugh stop sending so much i keep getting emails
>Okay and?
>Ask her what else has been done so I can try to implement it
>Dunno
>Days pass
>Camera rigger hasnt done shit
>Animators havent done shit
>Main project lead is fucking the asset handler and neither of them have done shit
>Its a week till the deadline
>Oh now we should probably do something
>The night before its due, she STARTS working on camera angles
>LOL i couldnt figure it out oh well.
>Day of the final
>We have literally nothing to show as a group
>Nothing got done but 4 seconds of character animation in a janked up walk cycle,
>Profgessor is furious with the class, because not only us, but the other half didnt do shit either.
>Had to turn in my individual model assets just to prove I did my work and passed.
It got so bad that the next year he had to change the final. So no. fuck classes, and fuck people who don't give a shit about your dreams. Get out there and do it user.
Not sure how to play it. Should add an option to show general controls and what the special stats of each shrimp actually do.
SHOW ME THE BEST IDEA FOR BATTLE MECHANIC IN THE WORLD, OR I WILL EAT YOUR SOUL
You're not getting my million dollar idea Satan. Go back to your day job!
>computer science in games
It's the same principle as animation courses; if your professor isn't famous or highly recognized for what they do, you're doing a joke course. Nepotism is really the only reason to do these kinds of studies otherwise you'll never get a job. Tell me what looks better on a resume: "Bachelors in Game Programming" or "Bachelors in Computer Science"? 99 times out of 100, a manager working at a studio is going to choose the latter. Also, if finding work at game studios doesn't work out, you can easily transition to regular code work since it's always in high demand
I’ve posted webms of progress on /agdg/ about 10 times and I either get ignored or get a sarcastic 1 word response.
Well they have to spin to generate gravity obviously
Undertale but good
/agdg/ is filled with literal schizos, no sane dev posts there anymore. Post your work here, i'd love to see it
Your game probably doesn't look great to be honest famalam. /agdg/ is filled with shit as the other poster says, but their feedback isn't dissimilar to what you'd get here unless you're a schizo yourself.
I fixed it anyway, I've been trying to shave away physics stuff on NPCs that isn't needed and something somewhere went nuts.
I'm finally starting to get into a really good flow with drafting out and creating concepts for the story. I think I've come up with some really solid concepts tonight.
I made a lot of technical progress too.
I don't really get that many (you)s on agdg either but I don't really mind, I enjoy compiling all my progress into a video every day, and writing out everything I did is also satisfying. Also setting my next goals every post actually helps motivate me and keep me on track. I also usually find onscure bugs when I'm recording my webms for agdg so it helps me polish my game too.
Are you coding son?
Nobody at game companies really cares what your degree is as long as you can pass the programming test, and no game studios will hire you with a degree and no experience anyway.
I can’t give up if I never try in the first place.
Do you think if I spammed a link to my (browser) .io game on Zig Forums for play testers like the agor.io guy did all those years ago jannies would kill it?
Getting port forwarding and shit figured out, should be able to host public games here very soon
user this is a post/present-Corona world where millions of people are jobless, most companies take degrees into extreme consideration now and won't even give you a test unless you have one.
They still don't care about degrees when they can get someone with years of experience, it's just that those people typically also have a degree.
It doesn’t look good which is why i don’t bother to post anymore until I do a proper visual overhaul.
The most important thing about video games is the art after all. All things considered the apathy is an important sign to indicate I need to make changes.
>was struggling with story concepts for days
>finally had that one idea that makes literally everything fall into place
Going pretty well. I just implemented some basic gameplay stuff. I made two weapons a sword and an axe both with attack animations, I can now pickup weapons, made a weapon select system, made a simple ai for the enemies with detection range and the ability to chase the player, a health system for the enemies and they take different amount of damage depending on the weapon you hit them with, they flash red when hit and die when health hits 0 and below and respawn after a certain time, also made a health system for destructable objects.
Im posting my progress on my youtube channel here youtube.com
I like posting my progress in these threads even if nobody cares because that gives me some motivation. Thanks for reading my blogpost.
when people say Godot is good at 2D
do they mean 2D sidescroller/top down gameplay? or just 2D art in general, like 3D movement with 2D sprite art
I was mainly referring to juniors like that user who doesn't have experience or a degree yet. For them, it's impossible to even get experience without a degree. For professionals with years under their belts, sure, a degree isn't really necessary.
godot is the best engine for 2D and indie 3D.
4.0 will be much much closer to unity in terms of 3D graphics.
A shitty degree might get you a slave labour position but it's not enough o get a job that pays
What about 3D gameplay? I'm with you on the 2D front, but its difficult to get actual 3D gameplay working well in Godot.
What do u mean?
godot only complain is that the 3D sucks for AAA graphics.
youtube.com
this is godot doing retro 3D.
>but its difficult to get actual 3D gameplay working well in Godot
How so?
Well yeah of course, what you think you're immediately gonna start earning six figures. Everyone needs to work shit jobs to even get experience, this applies to literally every industry
