Just finished the Apocalypse Anarchy ending. Why does everyone hate it so much? It seems like it presents a pretty interesting *hard* neutral path.

Nanashi brainwashing the goddess and Flynn along with looking evil at the end presents a nice counter balance to the fact that YHVH and his entire fucked up universe was wiped out. Humanity has another chance now, same as any neutral ending, but now things are just a hard reset.

In my opinion, this ending is like if the White and Neutral endings had offspring. I liked it a lot. Also, Dagda was a really fun character, and his motivation to re-become "Nature" was actually more empathetic than people give it credit for.
Overall, 8/10. Not the best SMT game ever, but definitely an interesting ending with some cool highlights.

The Divine Powers were a thematically awesome antagonist, the fight against your friends before heading forward to destroy the universe gave me a little bit of feels and I didn't even like the cast that much.

Public reminder, the Anarchy ending was the best ending overall.

The Demonic gene is dormant waiting to go wild in the Bonds route and it would quite literally kill everyone.

Only people who liked the bonds route over the anarchy route were the secondaries that started with nu-sona.

What's this demonic gene thing I keep hearing? I don't remember it being mentioned in the anarchy route, but I played the game on/off over a year so my memory is sparse.

To sum it up, it was the Angels' failsafe from an invasion from Tokyo on Mikado. The gene is turns people into demons, and it's contagious. iirc in the dlc you deal with it, it takes place during the Massacre route (so Nanashi knows not to let shit like that be included in his remade universe), and the kicker is that by killing the head (as YHVH and the Angels declared Hugo as the head of whatever the fuck was happening) literally everyone infected would die with him.

TLDR: 25 turns to until you get turned into a demon, and it fucking spreads. Only gets taken care of in massacre route.

I was playing this earlier today, I'm in the YHVH universe 4th brane and can't beat Satan, how far off am I?

You're literally in the last hurtle.

Satan is the second to last boss. You can do this.

>DLC shit

i stopped playing this after 10 hours. I guess smt 4 was already enought for me. Did I really miss anything or is this game skippable?

Not far at all. Satan is literally the last roadblock before the final boss. It's a straight shot.
Also, Satan was pretty hard for me. In some ways, just as hard as YHVH. I couldn't tell if the fight was scripted to go a certain way or not, but focus on getting stable amounts of damage out while also preserving yourself from turn to turn. Good luck, user. YHVH is a ride and a half. On war, at least.

Neat. So this brings up the question, is the DLC worth playing? I have the Diamond Realm one, and the Mephisto one.

Thanks anons, I'll give him another go

It ties up a lot of loose ends from SMT:IV. Finishing IV's neutral ending left me with a "Well fuck, what next?" feeling, as though everything could just easily fall apart within the next few years.
IV:A goes into both law and chaos, exposes the flaws in both, and then takes the neutral route to the extreme. It definitely has better villains than IV.
I feel like it's worth playing, but it's easy to burn out on SMT games. Take a break for a bit, then come back to it later.

It does good things for the lore and writing, and bad things as well.

iirc the Diamond Realm is the one where all the protags fight side by side right? That one was what they used to confirm that "quite literally every possible route is canon, just different timelines" I mean for the most part they're mainly for unlocking new demons but the mephisto one is "the beach episode" if that's what you're down for.

DLC is canon last time I checked m9

I guess I will play this game after a long break then

SMT is a bad series and this game is the pinnacle. Play Persona 5 instead you mouthbreathing fedora man.

>has to falseflag to bolster his persecution complex

Good work, SMTfag

Because putting the power of friendship bullshit in SMT is gay as fuck. Like I liked the story but the character interactions are fucking insufferable. Plus the MC looks like shit

smt apoc girls are hotter than any persona girl

brave

The cool kids are calling the routes "Bonds" and "Massacre".

Hate this bitch like you wouldn't believe

Up and at 'em, Nanashi!

How good are the dlc for iv and iva? I never got around to them originally, but the v and iii hd announcement has me pretty hyped and was thinking I might go back to try them in the meantime.

Since Nocturne was a strong Chaos game and the IVs were Neutral, I'm really hoping SMTV is a Law-focused game.

I'm pretty confident it will he, that being that shoots down in the trailer is all metallic like the angels. I think the v protag is specifically aiming to be the anti-demifiend

What's wrong with a dog companion?

Problem with the Anarchy ending and Apocalypse as a whole is that your motivations doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I did like Dagda but he pretty much just sat back the entire game and occasionally whispered to you how useless your friends are, despite them being plenty helpful for bossfights and such. Then right towards the end he pops up and forces you to choose between Anarchy and Bonds without any proper build up.

The game grazes the idea that your friends distrust you, but it's quickly resolved and there's no more antagonistic feelings between you and your party members. You essentially end up choosing between a happy ending or the edgy one, with Anarchy simply existing as a "lmao kill your friends" ending. It would've been much better if they kept going with distrusting party members or giving the player a reason to actually sympathize with Dagda.

Otherwise the game has a number of story related issues. Flynn acted out of character at many points throughout the game (excluding Shesha's disguise), the side characters were extremely weak and didn't develop too much besides Gaston and Navarre (god I hated this dumb mascot). Nozomi, Asahi and Hallelujah didn't have too many motivations of their own besides "I am X and I'm following you just because we need to save the world!" Toki as well was a pretty dumb character and her relationship with Nanashi was so bizarre at points that I'm convinced it wasn't in the initial script. She goes from "I love you so much, Master. And I will follow you anywhere" to "I'm sorry but I need to be strong as a human, not as a god" within a sentence in the Anarchy fight.

The divine powers were entertaining but ultimately underdeveloped. Merkabah and Lucifer were essentially parody levels of themselves with them appearing on television to talk or standing around at the yamato reactor. Plus Chaos and Law were silly bad endings which was such a wasted opportunity.
People saying the game is too persona are dumb though

I don't know about it being "too persona", but didn't you get the feeling they were trying to inject Persona into it? Like having a large group of friends, a mascot yapping around you, a friendship ending, and even a swimsuit side event? I'm not one of those "Persona killed SMT" people, but I do worry about Persona's success affecting future mainline titles. Devil Survivor already seemed like a healthy blend of Persona and SMT.

It's been a long time since I played, but I remember thinking that they added a lot of the aforementioned things to market it better, but were like, "SMT fans want to kill their friends, so we need to appease them too" and just went overboard with the massacre route. Anyway, it's been forever since I last played it, but apart from the combat, everything about the game felt off to me.

best game in the series

Dagda is literally a neckbeard redditor

Dagda is literally a Taoist personified.

It's loud and it's trying to have opinions. Only people get to have those.

No he's an edgy little neckbeard with a mommy issue to boot. I don't get why people suck him off so much aside from his voice acting which is pretty good.

Havesto~
