that's stupid, the lead artist is getting paid to do a thing, and has to do it. If the lead artist were to do its job, and the dev was ok with it, but they had to censor their own game because of "x" reason, then they are moreally corrupt, hypocrites, spineless, and dont value the art in their work.

Only content that a supreme court has judged directly breaks the law. This needs to be done every time a game is published in a country and censorship is disgust. You can't just copy one countries policy.

If you aren't doing what you're paid for you are not needed. Your ideas are still yours and you can still use them, but not for this because that's not what they need for their game.

No, because part of the artist's job is to discuss details of the job. A good boss will provide a loose outline and trust in the artist's creativity, and if that results in Sci-Fi, well that can arguably work for a fantasy setting.

Government and platform censorship are unacceptable on any level. Platforms should only step in if something is so incompetently programmed that it breaks your console. There are too few gaming platforms for a true free market to take affect, therefore they should be as laissez-faire as possible with what they allow.
Ratings boards, provided they're not government-run, are not inherently bad. It's up to the game developer what demographic they want to aim for.
Localizers who dick around with the original intent of the work, especially if they do so for colonial white-man-burden reasons, can go fuck off, but they're still private individuals under the employ of the game company.
Everything beyond that is creative decisions decided by a private company and shouldn't be considered censorship.

Of course if those creative decisions result in a product I'm not interested in then I won't buy it, but that's my decision as a consumer. As long as the government and the gaming platforms stay out, I as a consumer have enough access to choice.

I'm used to censorship because of Japanese law, but the ethnocentric flavor of censorship that happens during localization is unacceptable to me.

censorship is bad because it's censoring art and if you want video games to be classified as 'art' then you cannot demand something removed in it because your 'offended' by it. The work must be maintained as was originally conceived by the artists, otherwise it's not art.

Is it really censorship if it's at the creative level, chosing not to go with something because it's distasteful or whatever they decide its a direct change from the original idea, but once a team of developers and creatives reach a consesus of the product thats where any cencorship should stop, Localizers should understand, particularly in the case of things such as Japanese games that societal values are different, as well as values of any given individual or group. Ratings boards should mearly be advisories on the content inside a product for a consumer, Platforms and publisher should be free to chose not to publish a game or not have it on their platform but never to change it.

I don't think creatives -can- really censor their own original ideas on purpose.
Developers I feel mostly the same about since the team is likely staffed by the creatives anyways.

Localization is the big one. outside of some VERY specific cases (swastika wearing Klansman boss in Kid Dracula comes to mind) there is no excuse or good reason to censor anything and this is what will generally stop me from buying a game.

What if private company X slowly ends up being the default format for every other business in every other industry, due it's size and financial backing, and, if company X bans you from their system, you are unable to make business anywhere in the world because they essentially controls every other industry.
Can you imagine something stupid like this happening, like a credit card processing company banning you from owning a credit, or a social media banning you from their site, and locking you out of both private and public services, because most thing these days require some sort of third party login to identify you, would be something from a sci-fi book.

If I learn that a game has been censored to the point of substantially reducing the impact it was intended to have, that pisses me off enough to make me less likely to buy it. Fortunately this is quite rare now, outside of various anime games that I have no interest in anyway.
