MGS2

Braid

The Witness

What do you mean by pretentious?

i dunno what game is the opposite of hollow knight

Bioshock Infinite, if only because it fails at what it attempts and isn't very interesting while it's doing it.

Earthbound

Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP

The game has narration breaks that actually ask if you would like to go tweet about your experience digesting the plot

nier automata

Undertale
Nier: Automata
MGS (any)

Rdr2

The story wasn't all that bad, the gameplay sucked balls and the areas were lame and uninspired

It's hard to believe how bad the fucking writing in this game is.

that one

The Sneed Game

every jrpg

pillarsd of eternity

borderlands 3 that i just tried at the free weekend

Disco Elysium

I chucked

I've grown super tired of any game that pulls any meta shit. It's so tedious at this point

rdr2
>hurr im badass but deep cowboy

DS2
>HUURR YOU WILL DIE AND LOSE SOULS AGAIN
>CYCLE OD LIGHT AND DAARK
>THRONE OF WANT

That must be new; it wasn't there when I first played it around a decade ago

Game is about nuclear bomb development guilt...not that hard

Unironically Death Stranding

According to steam I played it in Dec 2012.

So not very new

I think the problem is they never manage to make it interesting.
say what you want about undertale, but at least its meta shit was integrated into the story and universe and not just a random "wat if video game real" 4th wall break shit.

not Hollow Knight for sure

I'm going to work on the assumption we mean pretentious as in "having pretensions of being deeper/more meaningful/insightful than it really is" - in which case, as another user already said, the obvious answer for me is pic related.

I would've been willing to forgive the pretentious story, but the CONSTANT clash between the intent of the story and the gameplay just makes it so fucking awkward, like the game equivalent of tonal whiplash in a film. (Plus the game felt kind of janky to play, with an arbitrary weapon limit, unsatisfying feedback, level/enemy design that couldn't decide if it wanted to be a classic Doom-style FPS or modern cover military shooter and decided to do both and failed at both, bullet sponge enemies, etc., etc. - which makes it have pretensions of being a good game lel)

your favorite game
Yeah that's right. Take that.

Castlevania

Gone Home. I thought it was supposed to have some deep interesting story. The story was you're a lesbian.

Undertale for sure, still like it though.

fuck you, you're just mad you got filtered.

The Binding of Isaac
