Literally the only thing wrong with it is how close the camera can be, and that was more of a compromise for PSX weak hardware, I'm surprised even with a PC release that no one ever made a mod that pulls back the camera

I agree that this is a shame, though I think it's handled better than in MG1 or MG2.

I wouldn't say this is a problem either. The level design isn't as varied or demanding with respect to sneaking as Ghost Babel or the MSX games, that's irrelevant to lighting. Ultimately MGS1 isn't as focused on stealth anyway.
