How is the support for the Dualshock 4 on PC? My DS3 is dead and I need a new controller. The DS3 works perfectly since you emulate it as a 360 controller.
>Just get a 360 controller
I don't like xbox controllers, sadly.

use DS4Windows.
But in all honestly you may want to instead find a good controller.
I have a DS4 and so far it has been a pain in the ass.
To bad my nephew cracked my logitech
I use scptoolkit and it works fine
DS4Windows works ok. It also works out of the box with Steam, so you can launch games and emulators through Steam by adding the exe to your library.
I'm currently using scptoolkit for my DS3 and I didn't know that the same program worked for DS4.
From what I understand the program has been abandoned for a few years now. That isn't an issue?
>DS4Windows
Does this work the way scp did? in that you never see the program after you've installed it?
I've heard that DS4 has official support on Win10 which is another thing I'm curious about. Is this support only extended to modern games?
idk if it's abandoned. all I know is that it supports dualshock 3 and 4 and I use my DS3/4 just fine. never had problems with either.
Can you bind any keys to that black bar button?
Is there any advantage in using ds4windows instead of just steam?
If you're only playing steam games, then it's more convenient to use steam for sure. It can however run into issues with games that don't support steam overlay and some non-steam games... but it varies game to game
I don't see why not. it just acts as a button like the rest. same for the share button, home button and options button so you can bind keys to those.
I guess it really depends on the game. you can probably use things like autohotkey either way.
You don't need to load every single game through Steam.
ds4windows works fine, but it's annoying to have to turn it off for some launchers like uplay that have native support. Otherwise you get double inputs. Took me longer than I would like to admit to notice what was happening.
what is it that steam does that makes the DS4 work?
Is the Steam support for it FULL support, as in the analog acts like an analog should and not that it just mimics a keyboard.
yeah the steam thing actually makes the whole controller works. They took the interface for the steam controller and applied it to basically every mainstream controller. If you only play games on steam, you don't need ds4windows
does ds4windows work with ds3?
no
So there's no actual official support for the DS4 on windows, it's just some launchers support controllers.
Good to know. Shame about the dual input thing.
P4G recognizes it and also shows PS4 buttons on the menus, some games show xbox buttons but it works fine and some games don't recognize it at all. Unfotunately, your best bet is an Xbox controller if you want no problems with controllers on PC.
just use scptoolkit, works flawlessly.
>Took me longer than I would like to admit to notice what was happening.
How come this only happens with a DS4 and not the DS3? Is it because steam just thinks it's a 360 controller and so it doesn't do anything with it?
>just install malware bro
Unfortunately I never liked the 360 controller and I imagine the Xbox One controller isn't much better for my case.
I wish I did like it, because it'd make things a lot simpler.
explain
No, it only happened on Uplay, DS4windows masks a ds4 as an xbox 360 controller with a few extra buttons. Uplay somehow saw a 360 controller and a ds4 and took inputs from both, thus creating the dual inputs.
There is a hide DS4 option in DS4windows to prevent this.
>you never see the program after you've installed it?
It has a notification icon and a bubble which comes up telling you when a controller has been connected, but that's about it. Can hide the icon like any other, and I think there's an option to disable the bubble.
DS4Windows lets you control the gyro, touchpad, and lightbar, and gives finer control over things like deadzones, acceleration, and bindings. Nothing essential, but powerful enough that it's a reliable fallback and should be used when there isn't built-in support.
I'm playing Castlevania SotN with a DS4. Comfy
>lightbar
Pretty sure you can also do that on steam, even turning it off.
xbox one is an upgrade in every category over the 360
A lot of newer games from like 2015 to present day have native DS4 support. Just plug it in and try it first, if it doesn't work then download DS4Win.
I never liked how tense the 360 analog was, I much prefer the light movement of the DS3 analog sticks.
Was that changed with the Xbox One controller?
This is nice but not when there's official support, so you'd be missing out on ps4 icons in game and shit because it thinks you're using a 360 one.
I just turned off controller support on steam because its shittier, at least when it came to BT support
>ps4 icons in game
Do people really give a shit about that? I'd understand it for some grandma that has to look at the controller to know what button to press but anyone that plays games semi-regularly has really no reason to care.
> ps4 icons in game
Oh noes, I might have to think which xbox button matches the ds4 button - how ever shall I learn this!? Sadly it is an impossible task for 99% of people.
I don't really care all that much, but if I have the option then it is nice.
i have autism, so yes, i care
if you don't want to mess with drivers and shit i bought this for my switch and happened to try it on PC and it works great switching it to xinput

You're right, I had forgotten that Steam let you tweak it a little. Here's a comparison of the two's options. DS4W has more customization, though Steam has basic cosmetic control.
DS4W lets you change the color too
Perfect on steam, spotty anywhere else but you can use ds4windows.
