Sonic's had an identity crisis since 2008 and while that doesn't mean the games are bad (except when they are), it certainly doesn't have the personality the series used to. Crash on the other hand, with the new game, just OOZES the fact that they clearly had a vision for the game, they know what they want to do and they did it, the art direction, twinsanity esque controls, and beautiful animations with the story shows that Crash has footing and knows what it wants to do with itself, really it makes me think the roles are switched from the 2000's where Crash didn't really know what it wanted to do (except twinsanity but that poor game had most of it cut by time), while Sonic had a vision and doubled down on it. (pre 2005, but including unleashed)
Sonic needs to pull a Crash
>already on page 3
its been 20 seconds and already rip thread
Sonic had identity crisis since 2012. Up until Generations confused it, it had clear idea how to go forward. Then executive were like "nostalgia sells, classic imagery everywhere" instead of realizing that Generations sold well thanks to godly level design and lack of intrusive filler.
Sonic just needs to die for awhile. He needs a long break, but his fanbase may find it hard to accept it despite the multitude of baggage attached to him.
sonic has always been trash
>and while that doesn't mean the games are bad
They are bad. Like Activision yiff fags trying to convince me post ND games are good, 3D Sonic games are bad (the kart racers don't included).
I feel like colors relied too much on being a 2d mario platformer with new wisp gimmicks and barely and 3d stages to say that it knew what it wanted to be, it was a fine game though, which is why i said post 2005 minus some games.
Past generations though is where they REALLY lost their shit. Mania, even though it had returning stages, knew what it wanted to be and made every stage a blast to playthough and it had so much personality and charm and OH i love it.
And then sega tried it and it fell flat on its pathetic pale pants
I’m so tired of all these games going on and on about “DUDE REMEMBER THE OLD GAMES AND THE 90S CHECK OUT THESE REFERENCES TO THEM!!!”
Both Crash and Sonic hold great potential to add more to their series but the people making them don’t do shit. Sonic fans keep showing up Sega by making great content with the IP but they still insist on getting these no name indie studios to squirt out some bullshit Sonic game with nothing going for it
How come Crash fans don't go into an autistic frenzy when Crash 4 basically made fun of every game between 3 and now? Did those 2000's games have no fans at all? If SEGA made a new Sonic trailer that basically said everything between 3K and now was shit and should be forgotten, the Sonic fanbase would go into an insane rage.
wow, first objectively shit opinion. took long enough
also shout out to for his almost objectively shit opinion except he doesnt pick and choose bunches of games based on their time period or 2D-3D gameplay
Part of the problem is that Sega of Japan has no idea what they're doing with him. When you look at what the West does with Sonic; fangames, Mania, Tyson's animations, Sonic Boom (The show, not the games,) you can see a better understanding of what makes Sonic work, as opposed to Sonic Team flailing around, throwing things at the wall to see what sticks.
Colors was a filler game designed to have something on Wii when it turned out porting Generations won't work. The same philosophy as Secret Rings. This made it okay to be downscaled in both scale and 3D.
It's poking fun, but not insulting. There are still references to the games in the trailers. (Radical entertainment tattoos on surfboards and Crunch spelled on fridge magnets) They're not non-canon even, they're just in different timelines from Crash 4, and its even hinted they'll show up. It's basically saying "we're going from the series' prime, but still respecting what came after"
>Did those 2000's games have no fans at all?
You might find a contrarians or shitposters, but going back further a good portion of people haven't even played those late post ND games. Alot of people I grew up with stopped with Crash 3 or CTR.
the sonic series has long embraced the ironic and autistic fanbase meme of the series. its ogre
No they don't. All the West has done is double down on one specific era instead or allow dipshits to turn it into their own personal autism playground.
That's why i liked Nitro-Fueled, it really seemed like the final love letter to the series as a whole before going "okay we're still going off what came before, but now we're REALLY looking forward" which sonic just. doesn't do. Sonic insists on doing what's been done before except worse because they think people will like it. Mania's different because it went back but went all out on what it wanted to do and had so much soul poured into it. And when they did have an original gameplay style (Lost World) people gave a mixed reception to it so they dropped it and promptly shat their pants with forces which has all the mentioned problems.
They basically implied everything has been forgotten. When was the last time you even heard about the master emerald or the chaos emeralds for that matter (dlc doesn't count).
>or allow dipshits to turn it into their own personal autism playground.
Sounds like Sonic Adventure 2
Honestly no one is here to argue with you. You can tell me how terrible my opinion is. The reality is we can all just sit here and watch Sega continue flinging dog shit at the wall and see what sticks. You can type whatever shit you want but you will always be on the losing end. Eat shit lmao.
>allow dipshits to turn it into their own personal autism playground.
You say that like i'ts a bad thing. I'll take genuine passion and creativity over soulless corporate calculations any day.
Passion and creativity aren't synoynmous with being a laughingstock and autist devoid of self awar-
Oh.
Glad you've achieved self awareness.
>Crash
>not having an identity crisis
The character designers can't even keep everyone consistent for two games lol
I'm not a Sonic autist I laugh at them and think 2-3 of the games are ok.
Changing the artstyle isnt having an identity crisis, i encourage the art team to render the characters their own way so they can give a matching vibrant soulful world with it, it doesnt make sense to keep the same style for different teams if it keeps getting handed to different dev studios every other day
It cheapens the whole fucking thing every time. The energy of the characters feels bootleg and foreign rather than familiar. It has never made me excited once I see a Crash character redesign.
Good crash redesigns:
Nitro Kart
Twinsanity
Tag Team Racing
Skylanders (Show not the game)
Crash 4
Bad Redesigns:
WoC (his model's good they just fuck up all his animations)
MoM/CoTT
Skylanders Show
crash is still shit though
it sells well, but so does sonic despite the fact that it's shit
It still has direction and knows what it wants
yeah, nostalgia pandering
>New game looking forward
>nostalgia pandering
>what
