Halo fans have been bullied by Microsoft, 343i, and PC FPS fans for so long that they've all become a little delusional, like battered housewives.

A 20 year old console game has problems this is news to me
Zachary Hernandez
Just replayed it recently and really the only level from the second half I don't like is the library.
Xavier Flores
Sure I can get behind that statement if you consider everything after the intro as the second half of the game.

>people call a 20 year old problematic console game one of the best games of all time
Caleb Campbell
Dude ,it's 20 years old. It's probably older than you. Nobody said it's the greatest game of all time, it just did FPS right on consoles when no other games did. Fuck me, you contrarian.
None of the reused levels even really play the same anyway. Have you played Doom? That goes to shit just after Episode 1 but it's still considered alright.
William Moore
It's got an S tier sandbox and the level structure to take advantage of it. Enemy design is fucking mmmmmm
Luis Barnes
>console game pretty sure it was on pc too
Mason Bennett
>objectively Subjectively
Evan Morgan
>people who played a game when they were 5 call said game that they associate positive memories with the greatest game ever
Carson Nelson
>That's every 'greatest game ever' ever made just change the age range from 5-13.
Julian Cooper
>glitchy checkpoints Where? >reused levels that were poorly designed to begin with No, they weren't. >rocket flood Pure bullshit and should be removed from the game. >cringe dialogue/voice acting It's completely fine.
>The Library Memed about as hard as The Water Temple, while its a low point in the game its an atmospheric treat
>Two Betrayals This is where the "the second half is just a retreat" meme comes from and its total horseshit, Two Betrayals is better than AotCR and its key in highlighting how you are in the middle of three enemy factions that are all fighting.
>Keyes Yeah I don't really like this level much, but its short and does a good job showing that the Covenant is losing hard. Also has a couple good setpieces
>The Maw One of the best levels in the series, full stop.
I actually like Two Betrayals and Keyes. It really hammers in how everything is pretty much falling apart and how desperate both Chief and the Covenant are becoming.
Sebastian Cooper
I've noticed that some checkpoints won't trigger until infection forms are gone so that could be the cause of your problem.
Eli Foster
That's true and all, but there's also an absolute fuck load of enemies on screen fighting each other, at least in Two Betrayals and Keyes. Just too fun to hate.
Lincoln Peterson
>emerging from the tunnels into a beautiful moonlit night >Covenant and Flood forces engaging up ahead >this starts playing youtube.com/watch?v=BSqm5Id6Hw0

is it worth buying the full collection? Im at almost 2 hours played and i bought halo 3 and reach, are any of the others worth playing online?
Luis Cox
You missed it being $30 during the steam sale
David King
Yes, absolutely. Buying the full collection is just cost effective but if you've already started buying them individually that ship has sailed. CE and 2 do not have the same online activity as 3, but they both feel distinct and unique enough that its fun. Plus they have great campaigns.
But yeah you missed out on the best savings.
Liam Lopez
Assault On The Control Room is when the game 180s in quality. The big long snow level with the same rooms over and over again where as soon as it's finally over and you're free they hit you with that >do it again backwards with flood >>Keyes Literally the second level from the game, but with flood. >The Maw Unexplored parts of the first level but with flood. Halo 1 is alright but the game nose dives hard after AOTCR which is literally half the fucking game.
Halo fans are really dumb and hard to talk to(not meant as jab at you just in general). It's almost as if a primarily console based shooter would attract less than sentient beings.
Landon Brooks
>Literally the second level from the game, but with flood. The second level of Halo CE is the aptly named Halo, you retard. You are thinking of Truth and Reconcilization.
The people who shit on Halo CE the hardest are the ones who very obviously have little knowledge about it.
Kayden Lewis
glitchy checkpoints are a constant across all halo games, not normally an issue until its something really fucking dumb.
Carter Martinez
>are any of the others worth playing online? None of them are worth playing online if you want to play ranked or have any sort of skill based FPS combat. Controller autoaim runs rampant. Big surprise computers can aim better than humans.
Lincoln Turner
I called it the 2nd level because PoA is hardly a level, it's over quickly. It's more like the prologue to me. But yeah I noticed my mistake right after posting nothing could be done.
I grew up with Halo played 2 and 3 on Xbox Live a shit ton and caught Reach on release before moving to PC. Grabbed the PC collection recently and the campaigns hold up but the multiplayer absolutely does not.
Anthony Thomas
>I called it the 2nd level because PoA is hardly a level, it's over quickly You could have just admitted you made a mistake, it wouldn't have made you less of a man.
Oliver Price
Been playing through them co-op, they still hold up great and mobbing around on a warthog is endlessly fun. Haven't touched online.
Luke Morgan
What if I want to have fun playing a video game
Jace Allen
If you would have read past the first sentence you would see me literally calling out my mistake. It's easy to mash PoA and Halo in your head as one level.
Asher Baker
>getting pleb filtered by a 20 yo console port Oh no no no
Daniel Barnes
The flood are objectively dogshit enemies
Jace Clark
>It's easy to mash PoA and Halo in your head as one level. Not really, the juxtaposition in level design it what makes the opening of Halo CE so effective. The tight, cramped quarters of the PoA filled with marine firefights giving way to the sprawling, lonely vista of an alien ring world where you have to search for your allies sells the game's narrative better than any cutscene.
>filtered by rocket flood stay boiling, maybe seethe some more, froth at the mouth a bit?
Isaac Ortiz
>glitchy checkpoints I've played through the whole campaign dozens of times and never encountered this. You sure it's not just the shitty MCC?
>reused levels that were poorly designed to begin with While it sucks that they reused levels other than The Maw, because story book ends are cool, the only really treacherous one is Two Betrayals because that level to begin with is too long. The Library sucks, too. Overall though, Halo's levels were still a step up from 90s FPS levels. Play any 90s FPS and you'll see what I mean.
>rocket flood It's not that often and not that hard, git gud
>cringe dialogue/voice acting Now you're just being a picky bastard.
Joshua Watson
A lot of the game is not actually very good.
Nicholas Robinson
>90's fps enemies either stand still and hitscan you from far away or mindlessly rush you >this is for some reason unacceptable in halo. cope
Christian Cook
Depends on your definition of fun. Convoluted customs where you're not actually playing Halo you're on some kind of weird boot leg Gary's Mod RP type server doing mini games with props then yeah maybe. But Gary's Mod and TF2 do that kind of shit way fucking better. I played Halo 3 customs back when they were on 360 and they weren't that great. Fun once or twice but not something you can play over and over or all night. I play an FPS to shoot things haha gun go brrrrr. Halo 3 customs have very little shooting involved and I believe custom slayer is player hosted, so connections could be dodgy but I may be mistaken. I expected the MP to be a blast from the mast ripe with positive bias from nostlagia and I played 4, maybe 5 games and haven't been back since clearing all the campaigns. The gun play, the movement, the maps, the game modes, just don't have very much to offer. Not to mention most of the people are playing on controller and letting the game aim for them. I'm all about getting bullied by better players and the eternal grind but when I lost a 1v1 because someone can max RoF shoot me in the head via autoaim when I have to manually place all my shots on mouse it sucks the fun out of it for me. You don't even move fast enough to dodge the aim assist, or dodge much of anything.
>Not to mention most of the people are playing on controller and letting the game aim for them. Another Halo thread, another shitter who can't play getting mad at controller players.
Hey retard, if you want to 100% beat people on a controller, just jump over them. This is FPS 101 but apparently I have to repeat myself.
Luke Wright
Take your meds, PoA is a 10 minute prologue tops that sets the tone. It's literally the tutorial level. You without any time passing in the story seamlessly transition from PoA to Halo, like it's one level.
Jason Foster
>You without any time passing in the story seamlessly transition from PoA to Halo, like it's one level. I made user so upset that he became an ESL
Austin Thompson
>This isn’t a cudgel, you barbarian!
Reminds me of that other S Tier line of dialogue
>I need a cudgel
Ryan Clark
>I get that at the time the gameplay was so unique Hmmm, it was a rip-off of Unreal though.
Jonathan Ortiz
this. they’re zero fun to fight
Luke Lewis
That's nothing compared to Miranda's "to war" line in Halo 3. CE is fine for what it is, the game feels very retro sci-fi to begin with.
Aaron Robinson
Based. >Halo 1 is alright but the game nose dives hard after AOTCR which is literally half the fucking game. Cope, it starts getting fun at that part (shotgun). Just admit you got filtered..
Noah White
>game of 3d chess where the biggest test of skill is aim >upset that someone on an inferior input device has literal aim assist to compensate You don't move fast enough in Halo to be able to do your manuever you suggest and assuming Battle Riffles one head shot puts me in kill range for melee. It's embarrassing that you're defending controllers while admitting controllers can't even 180 reasonably fast.
All of this is moot. Even if everyone was on kb+m Halo would not have the depth or complexity to be enticing to grind skill in. But on a casual level I'm not going to get out BR'd by people on controllers just because they only feel like aiming 30% and letting the computer do the rest.
>game has guns so its a rip off and doom was a rip off of duck hunt
Bentley Russell
The fun with the Flood is actually in watching them and Covenant fight each other from a distance while you tilt the scales to maintain the balance of the sides.
Tyler Ward
But you're the one upset, user. I can play and enjoy Halo on controller or on K+M because I understand how to use both.
Jordan Scott
thats the point. it gives challenge. i like flood
Xavier Gonzalez
>ESL What the fuck does this even mean? I'm not mad I'm just delirious I've been up for 22 hours it's nearly bed time but I'm debating on if I want to drink my pot of coffee I have refrigerated for tomorrow and play more New Vegas
I could play on controller just fine if I wanted to and be like every other retard who can't shoot people in vehicles or 180 on a dime. I had some serious carpal tunnel going from hours of fragging in TF2 the week I bought MCC on PC and actually played some of the campaigns on controller to give my wrist a fucking break.
It's just not fun, it's not intuitive, and it's not competitive.
