How the FUCK did this game sell so poorly...

How the FUCK did this game sell so poorly?! It's superior to maximum velocity in every way and that game sold over a million. What the fuck happened?

I personally never saw it any where. Was sad because I saw it advertised in Nintendo power and it looked good

Cause it was based on that dogshit F-Zero anime that everyone hated?

>It's superior to maximum velocity in every way

The only thing it improves over Maximum Velocity is more content and a proper grand prix mode, but in terms of actual gameplay, Maximum Velocity is miles better.

I just watched it for the first time this year in Japanese subbed on YouTube and it HAS to be 4kids fault because that anime was absolutely balls to the wall fun and hype with less than 5 weak episodes out of 51 total.

How? MaxVelocity isn't nearly as satisfying. GP plays like a hybrid of the original and X on the GBA.

Kind of a stupid name. GP Legend? Probably didn't help.

>It's superior to maximum velocity in every way
the music isn't

They should have gone with Legend of Falcon

Maximum velocity is maximum shit, cope.

GBA arranges of songs from X. What does max bring to the table?

Maximum Velocity takes the original SNES game, and refines and polishes the controls, while GP Legend takes Maximum Velocity's controls and fuses them with pieces of X and GX's controls and gimmicks. However, the game isn't properly optimized for this new control scheme and, as a result, every machine you use is OP as shit. What's the point of gitting gud when you can when you can navigate each course with the most basic moves, spam your booster, and get first every time; and, to add insult to injury, the game doesn't even have a Master difficulty, something that every other game in the series has.

TL:DR GP Legend's very casualized and more suited for beginners just getting into the series. The Grand Prix mode is better, tho.

All the better that it allows up to four players with a single cart

All the GBA F-Zeros have single-pak multiplayer.

What I'm saying is the complaint about it being too easy should not be an issue just play it with your friends.

More than anything it just had so much content and the mechanics that I love from X.

GP legend was meh, honestly. It selling poorly fucked over the superior Climax from getting a localised release, though.

First I’ve seen the game

We never got a Kirby right back at ya game.

Keep in mind I'm comparing to maximum shitocity which broke 1million sales. How could the better game sell so much worse??

I mean, I never saw the show when it was on, but when I saw it had a game based off of it I just stayed away. I don't doubt the majority did as well.

And that's fine, but the F-Zero series has a reputation of being one of the most difficult gaming franchises of all time. Initially, I enjoyed GP Legend, too(I got it the same day as I got GX). However, after a few months of playing, I noticed that it wasn't nearly as challenging as Maximum Velocity was(which I hadn't finished at the time) and thus, it wasn't as satisfying to me when I 100%'d it.

No, that would be the fact that the anime was cancelled after 15 episodes.

I don't know what they expected to happen when you let 4kids pick up the license. The show is absolutely fantastic in Japanese.

>one of a bunch of GBA games that are dirt cheap sealed
I'm not complaining that it's not popular

Max Velocity was a launch title while GP Legend wasn't. Also, GP Legend went pretty much unadvertised.

I didn't even know it came out. and I preordered gx

So it was a marketing failure...

I use to watch the FoxBox every Saturday for Sonic X and Kirby, and when I saw that first promo for GP Legend(back when it was just called "F-Zero") I lost my shit. F-Zero is my favorite Nintendo franchise of all time(despite only owning Maximum Velocity and Playing X at McDonald's), so seeing an anime adaptation was mind-blowing for 10/11-year old me. I also remember going online and google searching for F-Zero toys and just ogling at pictures of those miniatures that Bandai made(that I couldn't have due to not being allowed to shop online). I wish the show did do better.

Oh fuck I didn't know those existed. Now I want all of them. FUCK.

Those pics are from an user on /toy/ who won them at an auction(about $500 for them).

What a lucky son of a bitch, god bless him.

>HAS to be 4kids fault
Yep. 4Kids indeed butchers anime and yeah as usual butchered GP Legend like the anti-Japan fuckheads they are. Good thing they are not around anymore.

Play F-Zero Climax which is also on GBA. Great game.
