This game definitely requires an average iq or higher to play. A lot of people who are used to non tactical arpgs can't handle the strategy and quick tactical game play. Many of the people who hate this game complain that they can't slash their way through or that there's cost for performing a move at a bad time.

I just don't like the story

Single player games are a thing of the past

This game deserves GOTY just because of that. It finally managed to merge turn based and action successfully, and a lot of games are gonna copy the formula. We can finally drop mindless hack and slash and boring turn based memes.

this is literally the most played jrpg and the most played ff
the fuck are you talking about

But the cloud did relly the spehirtoh

it's like a better version of Xenoblade in terms of combat

what

How many more shill threads for this gay trash """RRPG"""" are you planning to make?

Because they stole the good parts almost 1:1.

Im sorry this isnt your echo chamber. Maybe in reddit they will agree that persona is the only good RPG or anything.

The Combat is flawed but at the same time still the GOAT system for JRPGs. Hope they tweak air combat in part 2

this is always a issue with games mentally retarded morons who play the game wrong, literally ignore the game teaching them multiple times and then complain about their own idiocy loudly on forums. The amoung of sheer imbeciles i have seen over various walkthroughs that complain about enemies having too much health (they dont) whle running around with a full atb bar, only using standard attacks and ignoring enemy weaknesses is astonishing. It truly opens the eyes to just how stupid large amounts of people truly are.

and fixed the bad parts

go to bed bobby kotick

it literally is among the best combat systems ever produced in gaming, and one of the very few that allows ALL options and strategies you have in turn based jrpgs on your party and enemies in realtime without overloading your brain (if you are not a moron that is).

I loved the battle system, but I thought it was too easy once you figure it out and master it. There are plenty of systems, but there are some moves that are way more optimized than others that make the battles mindless once you get it down to a flowchart.

Pic related. The superboss gauntlet took me one try and wasn’t even close.

GUYS, REMEMBER SEPHIROTH!? LETS SHOVE HIM INTO GAME EVERY 10 MINUTES JUST TO REMIND YOU!

>but I thought it was too easy once you figure it out and master it.
Isnt that the point of a good system?
easy to get into, hard to master

why does sephiroth wait for cloud to be in the shinra building to start the whole reunion?

meant for

I'd argue it should stay somewhat challenging or at least engaging even if you've mastered it desu, but I'm another user and can't say I've come close to mastering 7R yet

Well obviously for top secrets if someone tells you all you need to know it becomes easy but it loses the entire point of it.
I think the challenges were fine, it was hard to figure out but once you figure it out its easy.
I think it just needs more bosses and challenges, not necessarily to make top secrets harder.
How about instead of top secrets, now we have another challenge called weapon spawns, and you fight The weapons offsprings or something

Or a gauntlet where you fight every boss in hard? (or at least divided in gauntlet 1, 2, 3 otherwise the MP wouldnt last)

For example, Cloud has three moves that are far better than any other ones: Counterstance, Triple Slash, and Focused Thrust.

Counterstance reduces damage by 80% and returns monstrous damage and stagger to the enemy. It is so stupidly broken. And the timing is easy because time slows down to a crawl when you pull up the menu. Basically just wait for the enemy to start an attack and use Counterstance.

Triple Slash has NO STARTUP, destroys trash mobs, and is the safest attack to use on bosses / fast moving enemies. If the enemy isn’t about to attack, use it. Otherwise use Counterstance.

Focused Thrust is the other one worth using because it’s spammable and helps stagger enemies. If an enemy is pressured, go for this move.

There is almost no reason to use Cloud’s other abilities. Infinity’s End is good against staggered enemies IF you have two ATB bars AND they’re staggered long enough. Blade Burst and Disorder are wastes of ATB. And Braver is almost always outclassed by Triple Slash, Focused Thrust, or Infinity’s End.

Lastly, Cloud only has one “advanced” technical move. And that’s switching to punisher mode and blocking immediately. It’s basically a free (but weaker) version of Counterstance.

If you know the above, there is nothing else to do with Cloud.

Jeez, I just hit the attack button over and over as a kid and that was enough. Not sure how this game is considered anything tactical.

I have two problems, but I concede I played this game for way too long, so some of that’s on me.

One is that I think the skill ceiling is a little too low. Some of this is my fault for playing too much and too obsessively. But other games I’m used to have ceilings I’ll never hit (fighting games and DMC).

The other is that there are certain “correct” plays to make so the combat isn’t very expressive if you’re trying to play perfectly. It can feel like going through a flowchart rather than thinking on your feet. Tifa is the worst offender for this, as she is so clearly optimized for building ATB, building pressure, building stagger, and building stagger bonus in order. You always know what she needs to be doing.

>Jeez, I just hit the attack button over and over as a kid and that was enough.
that particular approach doesn't work in FF7R, it's designed around cockblocking that

QUINTS

CHECKED

But you can’t beat hard mode doing that. Not even close. So the game forces you to git gud. But then you git too gud.

Nice GET

you can't practically do it in Normal either

You can spam items and healing if you’re taking too much damage. So you don’t have to watch MP closely either. Normal really gives you lots of room.

But I guess that’s correct for enemies with gimmicks, like the Hell House.

I would like to see someone beat the Bahamut + Ifrit fight by mashing attack, though. That’s probably the hardest fight in the game.
