sometimes I wonder how differently some games would have been received if hype, marketing and expectations were not a factor
I went into bioshock infinite mostly ignorant about its development process, the preceeding bioshock games or any promises by the developers and I was quite frankly blown away by its atmoshpere and world. it is absolutely one of my most memorable experiences with a video game.
it's a fun game, user, but it's a watered down version of the previous games and veers away from its signature aesthetic.
Robert Hall
I still would have been disappointed by it, just not as much.
Hunter Barnes
never bothered to finish bioshock 1 and didn't play 2 because of that. got infinite from somewhere and decided to give it try. it was okay.
Ryder Edwards
you can say the exact same thing about bioshock if you compare it to system shock, and in that case the watering down was much worse
Daniel Miller
I'll give it aesthetics sure but the gameplay is inoffensive and lacks any sort of challenge (unless you choose hard where things were clearly not tested). The story is poorly written and doesn't even understand its own rules, a poor experience. It'd get critically nailed either way.
Sebastian Fisher
i can't tell if the underwater joke here is intentional or not
Colton Turner
Irrational made one bioshock game it didn't have a "signature aesthetic"
Anthony Wright
it would be fine if it had better gunplay.
Brandon Reed
It really. Bioshock was definitely different than Sustem Shock, but also did its own thing quite competently. Infinite tries to be in the middle ground of the old Bioshock games while also playing to contemporary (read: awful) shooter trends and fails on both counts. One for not being a very good Bioshock game on account of boring/samey abilities, terrible equipment system and lack of real upgrades. Two for not being a great shooter due to braindead combat, 2 weapon limit, etc.
Charles Adams
You can waterdown a wrench simulator?
John Cooper
It was a brilliant experience. Deeply flawed, but entirely memorable.
Noah Cox
I didn't even like the first two BioShock games but I fucking hated infinite. The world was just stupid and the gameplay made me irate. The shooting mechanics, weapon systems, enemies, and level design were so unfun, so poorly designed, and such a chore to play that I still think it's the worst AAA game I have ever played.
Never played any of the other bioshock games or systemshock games. Saw this one thought I'd give it a shot. It's in my list of top 3 worst games of all time.
Jonathan Gray
No the gameplay is offensive lol
Henry Peterson
its garbage and you're a retard
Andrew Davis
I may be in the minority but I liked the Bioshock 1 minigame with the valves and tubes, was disappointed there wasn't a replacement minigame in Infinite.
Mason Nguyen
I went in not giving a shit. I didn't pay attention to the marketing, reviews or anyone else's opinion. I came out of it thinking it was a mediocre shooter, loaded with bullet sponges and a mediocre story.
Infinite is disappointing beyond just being an inferior sequel. Even based on it's own merits it has a shit ton of problems, mainly the story being straight up retarded after a certain point and the gameplay being as bland as it is tedious. The presentation is pretty great and it tends to be what distracts people from it's many flaws, either that or their boner for Elizabeth.
Julian Morgan
>either that or their boner for Elizabeth. seconded. i don't even know why exactly, but I've probably cummed to her like 100-200 times. well obviously she is designed to be hot, but there is definitely a tension that builds up throughout the playthrough.
Tyler Morales
Then you have shit taste. Even with 0 marketing knowledge you can tell it's a straight downgrade from the other two BioShocks. I mean, only ever holding two weapons? A Halo shield? The fuck?
Colton Hill
It's definitely there, it's why the idea of them being father/daughter falls apart for me. Most of the game there's an obvious attraction between the two of them that kind of just gets dropped after they reveal she's his daughter. It feels like they came up with that twist really late in development and just didn't change anything about their relationship from before they came up with that idea.
Jonathan Lopez
The greatest lie ever told was convincing people that bio did not mean water
Jose Young
Nice, I'm playing it for the first time since having dropped it on release and I have been waiting to rant about it
It's not a bad game. In fact some sections are great and I had fun with it. When you actually get an open area with sky hooks and tears to play around with the game plays brilliantly. But it has a ton of bad design choices and just lost potential overall. I was most annoyed with: >Extremely linear map design, exploration consists mostly of checking siderooms and finding lockpicks in random corners, then backtracking for the safe. Way less engaging than in the first 2 games. >Map design makes the way you aproach combat a lot less open ended. Stealth approach is gone, there's mostly just one way to the objective and you never really get opportunities to set up traps. >2 weapon limit AND getting rid of ammotypes also really decreases possibilities for combat. I'd be more okay with less weapons for a more survival-feel if it was actually fun to scavenge in this game >Story starts out interesting enough but ends up just being really really dumb. I wouldnt normally mind it but this is made worse by the fact it takes itself so serious. >Pretty lame cardboard characters all around. Booker is generic, the villain is uninspired and not interesting to listen to. Game tries really hard to make you like Elizabeth, but she just kind of feels like she's there for the waifu-crowd. Worst of all are these two though, cringeworthy all the way through
Same, I feel sorry by people who jump into hype traisn and stuff, most of the games I play are old, and if they are new (the games I played on release lately were Kingdom Come, Greedfall and Outer Worlds) i never paid attention to them so i go into it blind.
It's better that way. The only games i have ever kept up were Telltale games since they are released in episodes, and now Cyberpunk, which is disappointing me, but i hardly care about "uhh we promised you playing a purist!" on marketing, i go into stuff blind or fresh after a lobotomy.
Why are people so obsessed with the combat? If you school shooters wanna kill stuff, just go kill people or kill yourselves already,s top using games to kill npcs and pretend they are your school bullies, it's creepy.
>It feels like they came up with that twist really late in development Oh you can bet your ass they did, no one was connected early in development, they just mish mashed it all together by the end because fuck Levine.
Repeated bosses with no patterns. They know their watering.
Cooper Peterson
There is zero content to the game aside from it's combat. If combat was largely removed and replaced with something else I'd be very happy.
Andrew Baker
Because the majority of the time spent in this game is in its shitty combat that's a step down from the two previous titles. There's no reason why this game had to be an fps, it would've been more enjoyable as a walking simulator of all things.
Andrew Ross
It's a very bad game. Stop being nice to it.
Mason Gray
I was annoyed by the fact you were given a shield., it was very copycat of all the shooter games around that year
Connor Gomez
Don't reply to bait you dumb dumbs
Anthony Martin
THIS.
Brayden Thompson
>obsessed with the combat? Are you dense? Because it's boring and mandatory to progress.
Adam Morales
I still remember there was a video, maybe 2, showing the sky hook and shit, which also had a different and much hotter looking Elizabeth. honestly I think everyone wished we had gotten than game instead. I still liked Infinite though
Parker Price
It's a very nice game. Stop being bad to it.
Jackson Gutierrez
Idk why everyone says this, but I thought the gunplay in infinite was the best part of it. The actual action of fighting enemies via shooting a bunch of them and hiding behind corners and slowly making your way around the map was the most fun to me. The way most of the guns felt was great too, though some others are admittedly shit. It actually felt like a gun fight, whereas in Bioshock 1 and 2 you can just stand still and whack everyone with your wrench/drill a few times and they’re all dead, because its only every like 4 enemies at most anyways. As much as I like carrying around healthpacks, the lack of stacking them in infinite really lent itself to the danger more, even if the shield kinda mad things strange. Healthpacks have always taken away any sense of danger, except for when I fight Big Daddies and occasionally blow through all five+ in the earlier halves of 1 and 2.
You must not have played many games in your lifetime, kid.
Ryder Kelly
Nah, I think it's a pretty passable/mediocre game that sometimes manages to be great. It's just frustrating to think how great it could have been. I'm not sure why they scrapped so much but im 90% sure that the earlier versions couldve never been handled by consoles back then. That's still no excuse for the hack writing though
Mason Williams
I can understand disliking Bioshock Infinite, but sometimes I really question whether the Infinite haters are all just one person. They all have the exact same autistic manurisms and speech patterns. Same exact posts every thread, multiple TIMES a thread, etc.
