Holy fuck
I remember the hype like it was yesterday...
This game came out over 10 years ago
Does it hold up well? I still haven't played the third one.
Interested only in single player
I remember the hype. And the crushing realization that the original writing staff had been completely replaced with the WoW one-liner hacks as the game dragged on. All of that time waiting for a satisfying conclusion to Brood War, and this shit is what we got.
It's shit. Especially the ending.
I never played the third one, but the first two are really fun single player, Id assume the 3rd is fun too.
WOL and HOTS were comfy for a sp experience, I never bothered much with the LOTV though since it is 99% meant to be a mp game.
Its probably got the best RTS campaign of all time. Story wise, it's ass though. Mission design and gameplay wise it's GOAT
the first campaign is fine, the other 2 are absolute garbage story wise, didn't play the nova campaign so I dont know about it. Gameplay is fun for the 3 campaigns
I agree
The nu battle.net was terrible (the guys who did the OG battle.net became arenanet).
They also immedialty killed the custom map scene because of how jewish they became after WoW.
The third is the one I'm really interested in, if you guys say it's ass I'll just ignore.
WOL was pretty good though story wise, and to some degree HOTS.
What hype? It was nolan nublizzard shit then, it's nolan nublizzard shit now.
and I remember the disappointment like it was the day after yesterday
>Some random bitch cures the zerg plague halfway through the game
>Raynor's character completely destroyed
>Tassadar's sacrifice completely invalidated
>Zeratul castrated
>The murderous parasitic hivemind race is a "necessary evil"
>Literally everything about Kerrigan
>Duran and Fenix never mentioned once
No part of WOL story was good.
Downloaded WoL last Saturday and played about 15 missions.
It's really fun, as fun as I remember it. Give it a try user, the entire WoL is free and the other two campaings are going for 10 bucks both.
I don't know about the story, anons claim it's bad but I'm seeing the same cheesy story from SC and BW.
dont forget the overmind was a good guy all along
>WOL was pretty good though story wise
Sure
Muh corruption
Find the macguffin
Defend the macguffin
Clear the corruption
Truly something Blizzard has never done before
It's 10 bucks, give it a try, I'm pretty sure you'll get your money's worth
I was gonna say "at least nobody got corrupted during the campaign but the fucking doctor gets corrupter at the beggining
The gameplay is fun, but the story is a mess. It's actually insulting how fact they jump to cliches like ancient prophecies. Play Broodwar if you want sci-fi kino.
this
people were also suspicious of the plan to release 3 expansions, citing it as money grubbing and also suggesting that it could fuck with the balance of the multiplayer. wol metagame because incredibly stagnant towards the end because blizzard didn't want to work on WoL and focused on HotS, which was also shit. the game's online (in terms of skill and strategy) only really come into its own around LotV, by which point most of the hype had died and major teams/players had moved on
the dialogue and tone of the trailers was also widely mocked as it clashed with the original game
technically duran is mentioned all the time because Narud.
Zeratul is still pretty coolio and Tassadar's sacrifice is not invalidated, it was meaningful to destroy the overmind because it was still a raging monster.
Raynor is partial drunk who is between a line of antihero for wanting revenge against mengsk.
>necessary evil
can I get a clarification on that?
>zerg plague cure
I'm not sure if it is even canon, it just seems like they needed a choice for a mission.
The story sucks, but the game itself was great. One of the best RTS campaigns ever made IMO, in terms of unit, mechanic, and mission variety with optional objectives and difficulties. Heart of the Swarm was good too, Legacy of the Void was where they started running out of ideas. Multi-player is still good though, well worth the hype.
Fuck Blizzard, I'm pirating it
Broodwar and SC were just as cheesy, you just played it when you were younger.
But to be honest, these are games that rely on how heavily competitive their scenes are, so story is always secondary.
But also SC and BW became competitive as an accident, they did try to make a good story, but it is still really cheesy because cheesy sells
>duran is mentioned all the time because Narud.
I remember people speculating about this forever until HoTS and people were saying Blizzard isn't that retarded to just shove Duran in there in such a blatant and obvious manner.
oh how wrong they were
Nice revisionism, retards.
also lets remember that fucking hybrids and the idea of the central plot of SC2 was already idealized during BW era because of the the Dark Origin mission.
honestly, considering what we knew from during the BW, not letting an obvious hint at duran during SCII would have been even more retarded.
The idea of hybrids wasn't necessarily terrible since the xelnaga wanted both purity of essence and form, so why not try and smash those puppies together.
The execution in SC2 completely falls flat on its face though.
I tried playing multi again but I don't like the new units. The new units mostly feel all gay.
The only new thing I liked was that Medivac can speed boost. Other than that it felt I'd rather play original WoL multiplayer
Obviously. I played the first two already but my autism dictates I play them again before I try the third and I'm not sure I want to waste the HDD space for Warcraft in Space: Return of the Old Gods N' Prophecy N' Shieet
Yup, people seem to forget that Starcraft and BW got especial missions with an expansion disc. The Duran missions were really fucking hard and really good. If you play them, you know that the writing isn't much off from Starcraft 2
It's only 30gb user, less than your current AAA PC title.
You can start playing as soon as it reaches 5gb
>The only new thing I liked was that Medivac can speed boost.
Really? I think all this GOTTA GO FAST shit for EPIC PLAYS made the game a worse experience for the average player
Meh. I'll give it a go. The third installment mostly deals with protoss, no?
You can never completely balance a game for all skill levels. It is best to try and do it for the pro scene imo.
drops were already insanely cost-efficient for terran, giving them an ability to further up the survival-rate was just retarded.
>mostly
yes, while sucking off kerrigan
Yeah. WoL and HotS let you play with other races but it was mostly Terran and Zerg.
Also I think SC Remastered is 5 bucks so if you still got an itch for Starcraft you can give it a try tol
