Is this game TOO intense or am I just a pussy

I never had any problems playing survival horrors, like RE, Silent Hill etc,
Never played System Shock, so I started with System Shock 2 and its just intense as fuck, enemies spawning behind you, constant threat, maybe it's cuz im playing on a high difficulty but I'm having problem beating it.

Is the first System Shock just as intense?

SILENCE THE DISCORD

It's a little harder in the beginning when you don't have as many weapons or upgraded skills. Gets a little easier after an hour or two. Higher difficulties lower your max health though so if you're not already familiar with what to do it makes it seem a lot harder as well.

It's the fantastic sound design. Keep in mind though as you progress further you eventually become a god and can destroy most enemies with ease. Try playing it on normal or easy if it's your first time, conserve ammo and hypos as much as you can, try and use the crystal shard when you find it. Also don't do a pure psi run on your first run

Do the enemies spawn randomly on the whole ship or are there scripted areas where that happens?
Because sometimes I'm just trying to chill and listen to the logs when all of a sudden I get whacked by a hybrid.

YOUR FLESH WILL WELCOME US

Enemies patrol the whole level, it could just be an enemy you didn't kill. Every time you leaver an area those enemies respawn though.

I think the hybrids randomly spawn all over. You can still find safe areas if you just want to sit and listen to the logs though, just go in a room and hide behind some props or something.

Yea, I love the sound design. I'm mostly upgrading my hacking skills, also upgraded my melee to kill the hybrids and monkeys faster. I heard that the game forces you to specialize so idk is going full hacker mode all right for a first run?

>system shock 2
>intense
Yeah, it's very obvious you never played system shock 1.

System Shock 1 is a lot easier in the early levels. you get showered in ammo and med patches

Am I losing much just playing the second one without playing the first one? I heard that you don't need to play the first one to play System Shock 2.

Enemies constantly respawn after a few minutes, but they have patrol routes and don't just lock onto the player. You'll be safe hiding in most rooms if you're quiet, and entirely safe in areas only accessible by grav shafts.

To me it's the opposite, I died so much in the first three levels. You don't know how to play the game properly, don't know how to explore, cant find the cyborg transformation thing, lose all your ammo, kill too much, enemies respawn in full. It was the most immersive shit ever imo.

You will lose a bit of cohesion, a good story and experiencing a good enemy firsthand. But most people never experienced the glory of playing SS in release order, so you're like the majority. Don't fret.

RUUUNN

RUUUUUUUNNN

Well, so far I really enjoy the game so I will probably play the first one after I beat it. The atmosphere is just full of soul that modern games lack. Idk if it's the low polly graphics but new games don't evoke the same spooky feeling, or the feeling of isolation.

YOUR SONG IS NOT OUR SONG

This. I didn't really know what to spend my skills on the first time I played it, but then I got the crystal shard and had an absolute blast using it. It sounds like OP's playing on hard though so I'm not sure this will be viable.

It’s pretty bad at the start for me anyways

feels weird that there are zombies in asci-fi game involing A.I

ss2 is pretty good, prey is basically identical to ss2.

LITTLE ONES NEED MEAT TO GROW

iirc enemies respawn after certain amounts are killed. Killing a couple in one area might be able to keep it clear for a while.

Just remember going in SS has no RPG elements whatsoever. So if that was a big draw you'll be disappointed. SS also has the nightmare known as cyberspace but even the devs knew it was trash so you can set its difficulty to non existant.

Not trying to dissuade anyone though. Its absolutely worth playing.

>cyberpunk is trash
Are you autistic? Different = bad? Come on now, faggot. Thematically the cyberspace is fucking ludo.

there was one time near a doorway, going from engineering to cargo I think where they spawned infinity and I had to just GTFO. scavenged a lot of shotgun shells and broken shutguns that way though

Sorry I hurt your feelings. Just didn't enjoy that part of the game. Felt unnecessary.

Get raped twice and kill yourself, you retarded fucking tranny faggot sack of nigger shit with down syndrome.

Nah, don't really care for RPG elements so I think I will enjoy the first one. Thanks for the heads up.

You don't have to specialize. my first playthrough a was a generalist. I couldn't equip end game weapons until near the end of the game but the shotgun, pistol and psi powers served me well. Hacking is great, turrets can be good allies make sure you hack them while the security is down. Pick a weapon type and stick with it, exotic is good if you haven't specialized yet it has the crystal shard and the two ranged weapons that use beakers you fill with those worm piles.

>Never played System Shock, so I started with System Shock 2
What kind of logic is that.

Zoomers are unironically afraid of graphics

SS1 is infamous for being a clunky game where you explore mazes stacked on top of mazes. SS2 is a much better starting point than 1 for new people in the series.

Well, maybe I phrased that badly but I wanted to get into System Shock and I heard from various sources that it's better to start off with System Shock 2

>turrets can be good allies make sure you hack them while the security is down

Engineering was so much more pleasant on my second playthrough since I was able to hack both laser turrets in the transition room (you can dump a hazard suit in between them so they won't shoot each other). Place was a fortress after that and it was very comfy to sit in the med room and listen to the occasional hybrid or droid getting evaporated. First playthrough engineering was a unrelenting hellhole desu

It's a rough game on your first play through when you don't know how things work. Just stick with it and learn

>graphics
more the level design

This, the massive labyrinthine levels and the near useless map are a big barrier to entry
