Blasphemous

Does anyone know if the trophy for killing all bosses without using heals can only be obtained in NG?

Pretty good

i hear this game was shit is it true

I don't know about others, but I love it. I started playing it again this weekend and I couldn't put it down until I finished everything. It's got a great art, a huge interconnected world, and lots of great details. The combat starts simple but by the end of it most of the moves you get will be super useful and once you get all the customize items it has a surprising amount of variety. The update made it a lot better and added more stuff for a second playthrough. Platforming can be a bit too punishing though, and if you're trying to rush through it you're going to have a bad time.

Kino boss fight

>get the bead that charges your sword with electricity after you heal
>stock up bile vessels
>every heal the boss loses about 2-3 bars if you spam the shockwaves

the last Amanecida went down in my first try, it was fun

I see the devs have still not learned how to be subtle with the shilling

Why would a dev ask a question about the game?

Nah, it's just fine. Other user was right about the platforming being punishing, though, lots of insta-death pits and spikes.

Not him neither the dev, but I'm having a great time with it. It's the closest I got to a 2D Dark Souls.

Have you tried Hollow Knight? It's not as hard IMO but it's still pretty Dark Souls-y.

I hated it at the start. I actually refunded it when it came out last year, but I bought it again now that the DLC came out, and yeah, I still think the early game is bad, but after a while I ended up enjoying it. Really though, the good parts are the setting, art and music. The gameplay isn't anything new and I think there are games that does what it tries to do better.

What games do you think do it better? Looking for recommendations, not an argument.

Heres some proper ambience for this thread. youtu.be/sPq1njsyMWk

>no secret ending if you stay down long enough that lets you get into NG+ right away

It has almost nothing in common with Souls, but OK. Play Salt & Sanctuary.

The music in desecrated cistern is absolute kino. The bosses are pretty easy though. Platforming has been the most frustrating part of the game, but only specific spots.

Well, I'd say I preferred Hollow Knight over Blasphemous. There are no movement upgrades in Blasphemous, you traverse the map in the exact same way at the start of the game as you do at the end of it. Blasphemous has plenty of instant death pits and spikes, and it has the unfortunate feature of your character launching backwards whenever you're hit in the air. There were also plenty of instances of falling through platforms just due to hit detection. You're also supposed to be able to ledge grab, but similarly it doesn't always work.
Compared to Hollow Knight, I felt much slower and less in control of my character during combat. There's a sluggishness to every action, while HK allows you to kind of weave in and out and has more aerial options. Neither game has very complicated combat, but HK felt more responsive.
Basically, gameplay wise, I think Hollow Knight does a much better job. The platforming and combat is overall more fluid. With that said, I still don't think Blasphemous is bad. Just keep in mind that the early game can feel a bit rough.

Just got the game. Beat the second boss and it's pretty good so far. Only concern is missable quests.

Its a standard metroidvania, I really like the aesthetic. The difficulty comes mainly from the platforming but you get the hang of it (Fuck spikes and those cross throwing guys)
The special moves past the first tree are basically useless though since you'll kill everything in one hit towards the end.

I think Blasphemous did exploration better than Hollow Knight though. Going through the world felt like a chore in HK.

You're*

I disagree, as HK has more ways of just moving about. Being able to wall jump anywhere, double jump and air dash and movement just being "snappier", I enjoyed moving around in the world more in Hollow Knight. Blasphemous had me going into the menu every so often to switch out what relics I had equipped just so I could move along quicker. Why you couldn't just have them all equipped at once, I don't know.

>no movement upgrades
There is a dash.
>launched backwards if hit midair
This happens in HK, too, though maybe not as far. I suppose the knight doesn't fall on the ground, though. He just staggers a bit.

Anyway, I've played HK to death. I love it, too, but I was hoping you had some other recs.
