It kind of clicked for me after Lady Butterfly wiped the floor with me dozens of times.
But I really got into the groove after the 2nd (1st "real") Genichiro fight. They made sure you have your gameplay down for the 2nd half.

Genichiro. Then got face fucked by Ape for awhile which was really training for owl with all the running in and out. Had the most fun with the corrupted monk area. Isshin was tough but got him. Now a year later I’m giving it another play through and man did it feel good to fuck lady butterfly up.
