What is it about this game that makes it feel like such a step down from the Galaxy games? I just arrived at Mushroom Kingdom, which is the beginning of post-game, and all I can think of right now is how underwhelming my whole playthrough has been.
What is it about this game that makes it feel like such a step down from the Galaxy games...
you know the answer. they forgot to put in the SOUL.
Galaxy and odyssey are fundamentally diferent games , and each one enjoyed by people with the oposite taste.
Literally fucking nothing. They're better than the Galaxy games in literally every possible way.
You're either an idiot, or bait.
People are too hard on this game, it has it's ups and downs but it's pretty good, and the movement is fucking fantastic.
Once the Switch gets a port of SM3DW people will be happy.
soulless
they put more work into modeling mario's belly button and nipples than platforming
I thought it was the best 3D Mario I've played. Maybe I'm a casual though
Galaxy is the definition of style over substance.
Too much eye candy hides the mediocre gameplay and awful linear stages.
someone hasnt played sunshine
The movement really sucks, there's no acceleration or anything.
>What is it about this game that makes it feel like such a step down from the Galaxy games?
Absolutely nothing.
This. Odyssey is the perfect blend of exploration and linear platforming sequences.
I have. Sunshine is great too. Didn't care too much for the Galaxy games. I like the variety of levels in Odyssey. I know they were going for a theme obviously, but it would've been nice to have a non-tropical level in sunshine
They made it Banjo Kazooie instead of 3D Mario.
Galaxy was just crazy in scope. No cult of 64 or anything after matched it.
Like it's hard to believe what the pulled off on a Wii game.
Name ONE area that can p toe to toe with galaxy in this.
based and redpilled. galaxy was a regression in every area
Galaxy fags are the basic bitch linear fags
banjo doesn't have filler jiggies
what the fuck, no. you actually had to use your brain in banjo kazooie as opposed to odyssey where you just switch your brain off.
the 3D mario games have all been consistent in quality imo. Im not the biggest fan but I think a lot of it comes down to which you played first and the time in your life you played them. Go back and play Galaxy and see how you feel.
i didn't like the setting
if it was in space it would have been goty
Sterile and lifeless.
I haven't played a mario game since sun shine, and I'm playing Odyssey right now....Why the fuck are there so many "stars" to collect? Were the galaxy games like this? It doesn't feel rewarding picking one up every few feet.
There are hardly any filler moons in Odyssey
>but that moon that’s just sitting on top of a hill lol
Yeah, it’s a skill check on exploration and mental map-making. So when the talkatoo says “I’ll give you a clue: shining bright on the yellow hill!” you are forced to reconcile that info bite with your comprehensive mental map of the world.
I promise you, Galaxy and Galaxy 2 felt they were supposed to be the last 3D Mario games ever made. After Galaxy 2 I honestly thought Nintendo was just going to do 2D and 2.5D Mario from then on with maybe a Galaxy remaster down the line. They felt grandiose to the highest level.
They thought that having so much shit to collect would make the game more satisfying to play in short sessions (as the Switch is part handheld), i.e. you get something every few minutes. Turns out it ends up devaluing the reward entirely.
Boy Joseph Anderson’s video really destroyed this games reputation huh? Sad. I remember Zig Forums being quite fond of it when it first came out and we were watching retard kun stream the game.
Both of these. Odyssey was made for people like me who considered Galaxy to be a massive disappointment.
I assume people who grew up with 64 or Sunshine usually prefer Odyssey, whereas people who may have started with Galaxy (and yes, they're here, Galaxy is somehow already 13 years old) would find it pretty jarring.
At least it's a massive step up after that absolute shitpile 3D World.
>Boy Joseph Anderson’s video really destroyed this games reputation huh?
I never understood this.
All he said was
>"this game is good but it has a lot of filler and isn't a 10/10"
Apparently that's enough for people on Zig Forums to STILL seethe about this milktoast opinion.
Does every single Nintendo game ever made have to be considered a perfect 10/10 by the entire world for Zig Forums to be happy?
they finally made a mario game for sodabrains
no, replaying odessery destroyed oedssys reputation
Yeah but now people just parrot his opinion and we can never have a decent discussion about the game. Same thing happens every time Dunkey makes a video about a JRPG. He basically killed Octopath Traveler.
Lately Nintendo has taken the approach with their games that they want to let the player set his own goals and do things his own way. The positive of this is that players who can motivate themselves have a lot of different options to personalize their experience. The negative of this is that people who just want to be told what to do often get an inferior time. I don't really mind though because such people are retarded and deserve it.
>comparing concept art to in game
Wow this has to be a new low for this board
This. If you’re the type of person who want to go through a laid out, linear obstacle course where the game presents challenges right in front of you you’ll probably like Galaxy more. Odyssey is more about experimenting in a playground and you kind of have to make your own fun with what the game gives you, which is why speed running Odyssey is a lot more fun than speed running galaxy.
>Dunkey
He has no clout since his cuckold vid leaked. He was a retard even before that though.
Saying "mario galaxy is not a masterpiece" is not controversial. Almost no one thinks it's a masterpiece. It wasn't ambitious enough to qualify for that.
Why Joseph anderson gets shit is because his complaints were highly specific to himself. Basically, his perspective was that the game is not fun from a completionist perspective. The flaw with this kind of review, is that very very few people are completionists, far less than 1%. For a game like this it's probably more like 1/20,000 people.
