Is Resident Evil 4 really that good?

I have tried to play this game several times. Every time I get bored while playing in the first area, the village parts. It's a pretty boring setting, walking around it doesn't really engage me, the shooting is kind of meh, it's all just a chore to me. Does the game get a lot better after this? I don't really understand all the acclaim, its basically just arcade shooter gameplay but the enemies are spongier to make it feel like horror. I think it gets old really fast

The start is the best part.

The gay sex is the best part

>Is Resident Evil 4 really that good?
Yes, it is.

>Every time I get bored while playing in the first area, the village parts
I don't know what to say if such fun, high-octane gameplay, mixed with hints of survival horror, "bore" you that easily.

>the enemies are spongier
Clearly you're doing something wrong, because it is very easy to dispose tons of enemies at once by using round house kicks, shotguns, explosives, traps...

>it gets old really fast
Nigga, RE4 has some of THE most varied map and setpiece designs in gaming history.

It doesn't hold up. For the time it was revolutionary.

If you don't mind the non-mobile aiming, then it holds up mostly just fine still. Lots of fun and variety.

>the village
>the valley
>the church
>the lake
>the night areas
>the house with Luiz
>the cable car
>the chief fight

That is one third of the fucking game and it only gets crazier from there, the sheer creativity put into this game is staggering

Currently just entered the castle on what must be my 15th playthrough at least

Holds up really well, much more challenging than I remember especially if you go no TMP

to me resident evil 4 is great just like dark souls for how every weapon feels worthwhile and I can change my loadout per playthrough to keep things from feeling stale

Last of us is better

EYYYYYY A GUYYY

I love RE 0 - 3 but I was honestly so happy to see actual difficulty in this series for once

How old are you, OP? And what games do you like?

>there are people that don't replay RE4 at least once a year

>Nigga, RE4 has some of THE most varied map and setpiece designs in gaming history.
this what the fuck, RE4 is the example I always go to for good pacing and memorability. every fucking room has a twist to it in terms of layout, enemy placement, or the occasional gimmick, and it's almost always making use of the game's core mechanics instead of vomiting minigames at you.

>Un normal, matadlo!

Everything about this character is so perfectly retarded I feel any explanation would ruin him

I'm still waiting for HD Project to finally finish. Again. Then he'll change his mind and go in for a third round of edits.

I rebeat it recently and it honestly is that good.

Op you're not gonna like this but
it actually gets worse

I got bored and stopped playing after the 1st gigante fight back in 2004.

I recently played through the whole thing. Worth it. The beginning IS the best part because you have a lot of freedom, but there is more danger and action later on, and the end boss fight is great. You'll probably like it more once you get some serious firepower and face enemies who aren't slow turds.

I certainly think it has "aged" in some ways but I understand now why some people consider one of the best games ever made. I'm not one of those people, but there's a lot to like such as the excellent sound effects, lots of hidden unique treasures, all the boss fights are good, multiple weapons with upgrades, genuine horror moments, even some of the QTEs are exciting like how you can crash the jet ski at the end and get a game over screen, shit blew my mind

It certainly influenced many other 3rd person action games of the 2000's with a slower more methodical pace and atmospheric horror mixed with some action

Every time I replay it, I expect it to not hold up, but every single time I am proven wrong. It always holds up. For what the game is, and what it set out to be, it is borderline perfect and I cannot think of many games that achieve that.
And the village is the best part, in terms of atmosphere at least. I love just slowly walking around it.

this is very nearly done, isn't it? last time i look it was like 90% green

It's fun, but not really a RE game.

RE5 is much better because of the Coop.

Just finished the "final" pass of 5-2, so almost done with main game, but still has the side stuff (shouldn't take as long), and I think he still needs to work more on character and weapon models. I expect it'll be done by this time next year.

Dilate, you disgusting subhuman freak

the only difficulty is trying to get max scores with leon in mercs because his loadout sucks ass.

no, also Zig Forums hates action games with over the shoulder camera

It was shit in that time
