Why does Zig Forums hate "movie games"?
Why does Zig Forums hate "movie games"?
no gameplay
only 12 year old kids hate narrative games
i was there back then
Zig Forums hates all games. it's just Zig Forums 2 now.
If you put all your eggs in the "story" basket, people will judge story the most.
And it is really hard to keep story consistently good for 10+ hours
I like movies and I like games. It's a win-win for me if it's kino.
If I wanted to watch a movie I'd watch a movie.
Bait.
Real answer is because most movie games lack good story. Furthermore they lack ANY good gameplay to mix. Good gameplay and cutscenes if the quality is high the quantity wont matter. Look at the Yakuza series as an example.
Having cut scenes doesnt make a game a movie game
Because the movie part of movie games are almost always oscar bait
I don’t know about Zig Forums but i find cutscenes fucking boring, I just want to play the game and make my own fun
It's becoming increasingly obvious that the people who complain about "movie games" are zoomers with the attention span of a fly
Limited time as an adult. I loved MGS3 when I was younger, but if I were to play it now as an adult I would be contemplating suicide during the retarded cutscenes because I want to get some gametime in before bed/other responsibilities and not watch a damn movie, but I am too autistic to skip cutscenes.
Would Zig Forums hate MGS3 if it came out today?
Well did they hate death standing?
Zig Forums isn't one person and people enjoy complaining/expressing negativity more than positivity so people who like things are often less inclined to feel the need to make a thread
Yeah, especially before the PC port
>WHAT DO YOU MEAN THIS GAME DOESN’T CONSIST OF 10 MINUTE ROUNDS OF BATTLE ROYALE?!?! FUCKING MOVIE GAMES!!!!
Yep, zoomers will be the death of games like they will be the death of all media or culture.
Not sure about Zig Forums but pol would complain about it's politics
Because Zig Forums doesn't want to appreciate compelling stories and just want more mindless action.
As far as I'm concerned there's nothing wrong with games like Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain. They exist within their own little niche, there's no reason purely gameplay focused games and these narrative driven choice-based games can't also exist. I've always had a fascination with CYOA books and these Cage games are the ONLY games that scratch that itch, that have an impressive degree of narrative flexibility. People seem to think Detroit is on the same level as those god awful Telltale games which were nothing but fake choices, but Detroit has the flowcharts to prove it's legit.
What I DO hate is when ACTUAL GAMES try to BE MOVIES at the EXPENSE OF REAL GAMEPLAY. There IS no "real" gameplay in Detroit thus allowing them to focus entirely on the branching narrative. When games like nu God of War and The Last of Us interrupt the game for INSANELY long and boring and UNSKIPPABLE "walk and talk" sections that can last HALF A GOD DAMN HOUR, then yeah that's fucking gay and retarded.
remove gatsby
braainlet
Zig Forums hates everything. But unlike rest of medium, moviegames bring most important thing in games gameplay and so deserves to be shat on
bring down*
Movie games usually sacrifice gameplay in the goal of making a compelling story, which isn't a good idea, since then the game has a shelf life and the story will be forgotten. It should be the reverse, but that doesn't mean a game can't have good gameplay and good story / cut scenes, it's just modern devs are incompetent and can't do it.
>Movie sacrifice gameplay
No it doesn't. These two aren't mutually exclusive
Name one "movie" game from the last decade that had both compelling story and game play. Death Stranding excluded
This. Games like Life Is Strange are the ones that does it correctly.
It will be forgotten if the story isn't interesting or well written. If the game is story focused, then gameplay should act as a bonus. Not saying it shouldn't have gameplay, but the gameplay focus should be minimal.
It's not neccesarily objectively exclusive, but in all extant cases of movie games yes they do focus traditional "fun" gameplay for a slower more story and choice based experience. I mean if a movie game didn't sacrifice gameplay at all then it literally wouldn't be a movie game, would it? I would LIKE if all games were like Deus Ex and had a huge amount of freedom of choices in terms of how you approach any given situation, but the fact of the matter is most games can barely handle linear objectively in a fun way let alone adding a huge layer of choices and branching narrative on top of that.
Uncharted games?
I never played it, so it's just a guess.
The Last of Us 2
Uncharted is a linear game from start to finish with cinematic action setpieces. If a game is completely linear with no meaningful choices then to me it's not a movie-game, what's the point of a movie-game if you're not exerting narrative control over it? I mean to me that's why the name "movie game" will always be a bit odd. What's the one thing you CAN'T do while watching a movie? Actually affect the plot/story/outcome of events, which is the bread and butter of the "movie game" genre. To me a game like The Last of Us is much more of a "movie game" because every time you sit down to play it you're going to watch a bunch of cinematic sequences play out in the exact same way every single time, like you're literally watching a movie.
>Uncharted
>Compelling gameplay
Most of Zig Forums doesn't know what qualifies a game as a "movie game" or a cinematic game. A lot of people think it has to do with cutscenes.
well thats what happens when video games become political... retard
Mg3 has loads of game play you stupid fucking mutt
Mass Effect 1 and 2, Spiderman PS4, the uncharted games, Deux ex: Human revolution, Dragon Age Origins, Witcher 3, unironically the TLOU games
enjoy 50 hours of cutscenes and 2 hours of gameplay you sony loving fucking faggots
movie games would have been laughed off the face of the earth 15 years ago
People liked to make fun of games like Metal Gear Solid for incredibly long cutscenes that break up the gameplay, but at least in the MGS games you can SKIP the god damn cutscenes and JUST enjoy the action if you want. You literally can't even do that in modern games like nu God of War and The Last of Us. You HAVE to slowly trudge through their tedious story sections which are essentially cutscenes but you're allowed to walk around in them, wow so cool such epic interactivity.
they're not even good as movies, they fail as games, what's to like about them?
>games weren't political when you were invading countries as buff murican soldier
>they became political when gay devs added gay characters!!!
Correct, this board clearly has no idea what a "movie game" actually is. see posts like:
>leftists try to inject marxism into gaming
>faggots are surprised when Zig Forums has an opinion about it
Kill yourself dishonest scum
Yes.
I wish we could go back to the good old days of non political games like Deus Ex and Metal Gear Solid 2. But these god damn liberals have to acknowledge that gay people exist, turning EVERYTHING into a POLITICAL issue.
War games aren't shoving gay propaganda down our throats, pun intended
I only hate them if they have shit gameplay or a shit story. MGS is allowed to be a movie game since it has decent gameplay and a fun story.
Its not Zig Forums. Its the radical end of resetera. They don't want to turn every game girl into Abby, they want to end all gaming. Notice Zig Forums hasn't played a single fucking one of the games they furiously shit on daily. Trannies and radfems don't play video games and neither does Zig Forums because they're the same people. Faggots. Faggots the whole lot of you.
You say that like there weren't any 18 year olds who joined the military because of CoD.
I haven’t owned a Sony console since PS2, you retarded console war drone.
I know this kid that can't watch a whole tik tok. The world is fucked. These people are not going to be able to maintain an electrical grid or plumbing and sewage systems.
