I think the issue was less her killing Joel but rather the game making you play as her and kinda shafting Ellie in the process.
Also the more you think about it, the more you realize that knowing all of that stuff about Abby does nothing to the actually plot. Sure the player knows that information but none of that is conveyed to Ellie or does anything meaningful to her character. It's just stuff we know and we are supposed to judge Ellie negatively for doing what she is doing even though she has know way to know what kind of person Abby is so what is the actual point of expanding on her?
