Just started learning greatsword recently. It's slow, but man those big hits are worth it.

Hammer is just the right balance of heavy unga and being able to move properly
Monster Hunter is about 20% resource management and prep, 20% timing, and 60% placement when it comes to the big monsters.
I refuse to believe Monster Hunter is THAT much more hardcore outside of World. All the fans complain about is how they can't fight the same monsters they've fought for 300 hours who have the same 4-5 attacks, only with bigger numbers.
