Still waiting on that Switch port?
Still waiting on that Switch port?
yes
>star ocean
>good
yes
Normally I'd agree with you but Second Story was a masterpiece
With how replayable that game was, it would be stupid not to put it on the Switch. Has there been any word of it? It's been almost a year since the first one came out.
trying to play SO2 after SO3 and I don't really get why it's so praised, the combat just felt like easy braindead mashing and was still like that 5 hours in. the crafting and other systems might be amazing but considering you only craft to get better at the already easy and braindead combat, it kind of feels like a moot point. the story might be good, but just story can't carry a videogame imo
I want to take a sec to specify that I played the psp remake though, I originally started the PS1 version but I couldn't get over the clearly terrible translation in that version- so if the combat was better then I guess that might explain some of the praise
No, it's about the same, except that some spells are sped up. You can just mash through combat for 95% of the battles but there are advantages to certain positioning for certain enemies. Honestly the "mashing" felt cathartic compared to menu-driven combat so I didn't mind
to be fair to SO2, I don't even really like any of the rpgs I grew up with anymore either unless I am playing using a hard mode mod or something like that that makes you actually think and strategize to win fights
Star Ocean 1 and 2 (And 2's GBC sequel) are really great games. SO1 is probably one of the best SNES games and it's amazing just how hard it pushed the system to it's limits.
Star Ocean 3 started the downward fall in quality.
Only the last "bonus" dungeon could be considered hard, and even then only on the lower levels. Beyond that, the unlimited final boss actually made positioning downright necessary, including jumping which you can't normally do without specific special moves. That fight isn't fun for other reasons though.
That said, I love everything else about Second Story. Even a lot of the character cringe is there on purpose. 3 was a dumpster fire that I refused to finish
What did you dislike about 3 specifically? I have always considered it as my favorite jrpg due to how satisfying the combat feels with skill cancelling and the crafting feeding into it (which earlier SOs probably had but like I said, I hated their combat so instantly crafting is just 'meh'). In addition to all that, there is the most post-game content I have ever seen in a jrpg, easily more 30 hours on top of an already 2 disk ps2 game which is mega rare already.
As for the story... as far as I'm concerned it's just alright. I don't think *the twist* deserves nearly as much hate as it gets, but I'm not about to claim that it's deep at all or particularly good either. But I can live with a meh story in what I consider an otherwise excellent videogame.
There won't be one. It's already on PS4 and the localized one will be on PS5.
>I don't think *the twist* deserves nearly as much hate
SO2 does something almost as dumb with the return to Expel.
Honestly I probably didn't give it a fair shake. I couldn't get over dying from running out of MP. Spending HP for moves had much of the same problem. I guess I was just used to the "mash" and when it wasn't there I just threw it away in disgust. Literal shrink-brain on my part now that I think about it.
That was just what made me end up tossing it though. I couldn't get behind the main character. Too many retarded motivations and reasoning in the first few hours made me not WANT to progress, and and combat pitfalls compared to the old comfy version really ended up with me not wanting to continue.
SO2 hasn't been ported to anything but the PSP, buddy.
HUH?! BEHIND?!
WHEN DID THEY?!
It's on PSP, that game isn't getting any better than that
later on MP death actually serves as a kind of neat mechanic, as lots of mobs have far less MP than HP and you can just target their MP to kill them
Fayt is kind of a retard but luckily he stops getting to make decisions for himself shortly after you stopped playing
If that was the only think keeping you back, I'd advise you to try it again sometime, it's even one of the only ps2 games to natively support widescreen so it emulates perfectly
>all the mian games are available on psn
>EXCEPT the mlst well recejved game, 2.
Is tri-ace dumb? I know there was a jp only ps3 rerelease, but that's not on psr
If he stops making retarded decisions that are completely counter to anything resembling common sense, then that's probably the single best argument for me to pick it up again. Thanks!
Waiting on it to hit psn actually.
It's the lack of consistency that bothers me. Like how it's the only one you can't get on PSN out of all five games.
Literally my favorite jrpg. It was one of the first things I ever bought on ebay back in about 2001 or 2002. I even remember sending the physical money order through the mail.
>retarded decsions
like what it's been awhile but other then kinda breaking the PP3 I don't remember any radical things he could have done?
I imagined he meant just being an obstinate retard in the shelter and whining so much about breaking the PP3 when his life was in danger? He doesn't really get much time to make his own decisions in the game so I kinda wasn't sure what he meant myself.
Fuck the PSP remake
Just like anime trope crap. I don't remember the characters' names but early in the game some girl leaves a wagon you're all in to distract some soldiers that are chasing your group, after everyone agreeing that it's a hard decision but the right thing to do. RIGHT after she leaves, the MC says "WE GOTTA SAVE HER!" as if she fell out the back on accident and the last few minutes of dialogue never happened.
my only experience with star ocean was renting the one for the ps2 at a blockbuster and my mom walked in at some random part where one character was being super edgy and said "I'm not going in that church, I'm an atheist" so my mom made me stop playing it because my parents were too religious for my own good
Play the first one right now m8 the intro is amazing
