>2.0m tall
>122.0 kg
>130 base speed
>represented ingame as floaty, slow and light as a feather
What were they thinking?
2.0m tall
He's only slow in Melee. He's top 10 in speed in Smash 4 and Ultimate. Not sure why the fuck they made him so light though.
Aren’t all the pokemon weights in smash inconsistent with their dex entries?
Mewtwo is in a weird spot where just a few buffs would turn him into a monster, especially online
Mewtwo is holding back
Because he can float
If he had all the weight that Ganon did he'd be a monster.
Case in point, Project M Ganon.
perhaps him being light and floaty is supposed to represent him levitating with telekinesis or something?
His tail is straight up his #1 problem. Glass cannons can be good, see G&W, Falco, and pre-nerf Pichu. Mewtwo's problem is that he literally gets hit because his tail hitbox will fuck him over no matter how hard he tries to work around it.
pretty much. Remove the hurtbox on his tail and suddenly you can't really approach him easily and can just space you out
He has to be light because he's
>Fast
>Strong
>Has range
>Has combos
>Has good projectile
>has great recovery
>combo throw and two kill throws
>command grab that's also a reflector
If he wasn't lightweight they would have to cuck him in some other way that would make even less sense. You can't remove the speed, range, power, or recovery from him because that's all inherent in his design.
This, Ridley and Mewtwo are the only two characters I can think of that are combo food despite not being super heavyweights. Matchups vs Sheik, Pikachu, Joker, etc are made more difficult because of how easy it is to keep strings going against them.
They're already massively cucking him with that massive tail hurtbox.
Without that hurtbox, all his tail attacks are now disjoints, and he becomes literally broken-tier. Every one of Mewtwo's flaws exists to keep him balanced.
Oh well, that works both ways with his massive bair and f-tilt. He's definitely high-mid or high tier at this point, very little to complain about. 70% of the cast in the game is worse than him.
We'll have to see. He was recently buffed, so that could be the case, but ultimately we'll have to see how much his results improve tournament-wise.
I consider it a shame because, Mewtwo is basically a Ridley archetype character done right in my opinion. I know their abilities don't have much overlap so I'll try to explain.
>Both are huge, with long tails, so long-sword like range on normals should be a given (Ridley actually has this in spades)
>Both are pretty much required to have good recoveries, which Mewtwo actually has and Ridley... Kind of has. At least Ridley's two recovery moves can kill you, which does help differentiate the two.
>It wouldn't make sense for either of them to be weak and hit like Shiek, so raw power should be a given. To be fair, Ridley actually does have this in spades and it's not the reason Ridley is bad.
>They both obviously need to have projectiles too, and while Shadow ball is both amazing charged and uncharged, as a combo tool, kill tool, zoning tool, and pressure too, Ridley's Plasma breath is bad and will mostly not help you as far as I'm aware.
>Their down specials effectively accomplish something similar, but Mewtwo's is much easier to land and will kill you while Ridley's is as ignorable as Falcon Punch because it will never hit anyone.
The only sensible weakness to give both characters was a light weight, and they have a lot of the same strengths implied in their design. Now, to be fair, Ridley isn't actually light. He's on the heavier side of midweight. It's just that they didn't go as hard on all of the strengths Ridley should have as much as they did with Mewtwo.
He seems extremely slept on by high level players. Is it because nobody uses him in tourneys or is the gigantic hurtbox that big of a deal?
this is exactly what it is
There's a few reasons.
1. He was terrible for a long time early in the game's life so nobody actually tried to play him, by the time he became a decent character every relevant player already had decided their main and put months of time into it, except for WaDi who did try to push Mewtwo.
2. WaDi was engaged to Cinnpie, the girl who fucked the 14 year old, so he understandably has kept a low profile especially since that.
3. Since Mewtwo got his last two big rounds of buffs the tournament scene has been completely dead because of Covid.
When tournaments pick up again you can definitely expect Mewtwo to succeed if any relevant top players try to use him.
t. late 20s actual irl tourneyfag.
I don't mind all that, I just think it's weird he attacks with his tail so much
>mfw i'm still able to kill consistently with down-b > side-b > side smash
mewtwo is fucking god tier
Arms: Jab, fair, dash attack
Legs: Dair
Energy/Psychic stuff: Side b, neutral b, down b, forward throw, back throw, up throw, nair, pummels
Tail: dtilt, ftilt, up tilt, bair, up air, down throw
He still mostly uses his psychic powers but granted tail attacks are more unique than just punching and kicking since most of the cast can do that anyways.
It's because all the high level players have been canceled now
I'd love Ridley if they just made his up special have more than 4 weird directions, and had an actual usable down special.
Apparently Void has been playing Mewtwo since he's using Mewtwo in the Gimr 8.0.0 invitational where only Minmin and characters buffed in 8.0.0 are allowed. Hopefully he actually plays the character seriously and doesn't just drop him some time later.
VERY cute feet
Obviously not you
Imagine how different Mewtwo would be if he was created as a DLC character, he'd probably have some cool gimmick related to his Psychic powers rather than a character that uses a tail for attacking.
Gimmicks are cancer
Only if it's shit like Hero's crits, or Banjo's side b, or Joker's Arsen, or Terry's super moves.
Ok, well I will admit that a lot of the recent gimmicks have been cancer, but that doesn't mean it's guaranteed to be cancer.
yeah but those thighs tho
It hurts. I wanted so bad for him to just be a consistent high tier like in 4. Most people set him pretty low nowadays.
