Game has boss

>game has boss
>theres a very specific way to beat it
>game doesn't explain or make it obvious

I spent over 30 minutes on that angler fish boss in Banjo Tooie before I realized how to beat it.

>needing your game to hold your hand
kill yourself you pathetic casual

>Game has a basically invincible boss
>Turns out your specced wrong
>Now you can't beat the game

games that are trial and error are not fun.

>game has a boss that is supposed to kill party member
>party member dies in cut scene mid fight
>lose all items member was holding permanently

Blinx had this issue with the final boss, he just becomes invulnerable in the third phase and starts chasing you 24/7. You need to collect and use all 5 time powers in order to damage him even though he was immune to them in the first two phases.

why yes I did play lost planet 2

>boss is kicking my shit in
>"oh this must be one of those boss fights you're supposed to lose"
>die
>game over screen

It's literally not trial and error
>hmmm I keep dying to this boss, maybe there's some sort of gimmick or a more damaging set of weapons
This should occur to you after the first couple of deaths.
If it doesn't, I think you shouldn't be playing videogames.

You just fuckin described trial and error user, trying to kill the boss and erring by dying is literally trial and error.
I don't agree that its a bad mechanic, but it is for sure trial and error in your example.

>boss dies of old age if you turn the console off and dont play for a couple weeks

>game has boss with a very specific, creative gimmicky way to beat it
>game has another boss
>look for the gimmick
>doesn't have one
>wasted my own fucking time like a retard
>disappointed african american man. jpeg

You can literally boin anything down to "trial and error"
Do you want to be able to beat every game without failing once or something?

Thats literally every game ever, retard.

Handholding isn’t the only option, most often the other choice is to let the player brute force the boss, i.e. you can use normal attacks and damage the boss whenever and you don’t have to wait for a stupid weak point or whatever the fuck

That is LITERALLY what trial and error is you cocksucking mongoloid

>Boss in JRPGs
>poison/stun/paralyze doesn't work

Every fucking time.

>had to look up guide how to beat boss on my own playthrough
>spam "git gud" on forums and comment sections when other players do the same

>Boss in JRPGs
>poison/stun/paralyze is the only thing that works

her weird nose ruins her entire face

user...

Nobody on this board figured out Psycho Mantis controller port switch by themselves. Nobody. Anybody who says they did is a liar: you saw it on a guide or Campbell told you.

Name one game

No retards, testing whether or not some weapon or shit is the trial and error, realizing that there might be some other fucking way to kill it isn't.
You're conflating the realization with the response.

Super Mario Bros

Give an specific example

Realizing you can possibly construct some sort of glass fixture that produces light through electro-chemical reactions isn't trial and error, trying to find a way to make a fucking lightbulb that works is.

I had this problem with the final boss in The Last Remnant, tried everything for like 45 minutes and ended up googling it

The worse one was in Ghost of Tsushima, it wants you to parry specific enemies. You can't just kill them how you want, lure out, bait, hack R&R; no you have to parry this attack or he'll never stop doing it. Ruined the game for me.

Not as bad as Rockstar though; "Did you exit stage left after robbing that train?! FUCK YOU, SHOULD'VE EXITED RIGHT!!! Mission Failed."

Almost every boss in Sticker Star.

>have to read lore to find boss’s weakness

Okay that one would be pretty neat though if he kept going on about obvious ones like "The Giant walked with a great limp." so if you see a giant, go for the shins. How is that not cool?

I took me couple of tries to beat that shit, that was where you had to place the fucking marker right?
Instead of shooting it to death like what you have been doing the entire game.

Skyward Sword
>"You can't use the Skyward Strike in here"
>The intended way is to "use" it anyway
Fuck you, then. I beat him with pure skill

>npc tells you as a sidenote how the boss can be easily defeated instead of bruteforcing it but most of people miss this hint
Yea, I had to overlevel to beat the Oni dude in SMT Nocturne.

What game user?

>Mario
>JRPG

>I had this problem with the final boss in The Last Remnant
What, the conqueror is just a normal boss.
The Fallen and The Lost on the other hand you have to beat in certain amount of turns or you can bypass that by using cachexia.

Duma from Soul Reaver. Fuck that fight, but I admit the mechanic is incredibly clever and wished more games had that sort of thing.
