depending on the version of Chief present he would be able to sprint jump pretty far and either use a thruster or ground pound to cover the gap, I'm assuming he doesn't get all his gear otherwise he could sword cancel over them, grenade /brute shot jump or throw a grav lift in mid air
I'm interested to see someone's case for how JC could survive, maybe if he had a means of recharging his energy and had upgrades from near the end of the game he could leap around while invisible with a laser sword
