The fifth generation of consoles, what a time to be alive. The twilight of 2D being the focus of games, but still getting some of the best 2D fighters, 2D action games around. Old titles saw great 2D installment and 3D was making its advent.

Playstation had big hitters like Alundra, Crash, Spyro, Klonoa, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy 7-9, Final Fantasy Tactics, Ghost in the Shell, Tomba 1 & 2, Ace Combat 1-3, Mega Man Legends 1, 2 & Tron Bonne, Silent Bomber, and holy shit the import library - it's phenomenal. Pushing 3D forward too with many 60fps 3D games.

Saturn had top class 2D and arcade style games like Sega Rally Championship, Astal, Panzer Dragoon, Zwei, the legendary RPG Panzer Dragoon Saga, 3D platformers like Burning Rangers, Die Hard Arcade, Virtua Cop 1 & 2, timeless fighters like Virtua Fighter 2 and Virtual-On and of course, the Saturn is famous for its massive Japanese library that you don't need any Japanese skills to play.

N64 had Mario, Zelda, the list goes on...

What a great time to be playing video games, don't you think Zig Forums?

nice list of hidden gems

>Playstation had big hitters like Alundra
Literally who?
>Crash, Spyro
Which were recently remade and everybody realized they were bad games
>Klonoa
Literally who?
>Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy 7-9
I’ll give you those except for FF8 and maybe FF9 which both kinda sucked but FF9 was playable.
>Final Fantasy Tactics
Nobody bought this, they had to reprint it after the PS2 was out
>Ghost in the Shell
Anime game? Never heard of it
>Tomba 1 & 2
Literally who?
>Ace Combat 1-3
Niche
>Mega Man Legends 1, 2 & Tron Bonne
Not successful and also niche
>Silent Bomber
Literally who?

>Pushing 3D forward too with many 60fps 3D games.
It’s a VERY short list. Tekken 3 (kind of). R-Type Delta. Not very much. 60fps games look incredibly basic on PS1

>Not knowing Klonoa
post: discarded

It's so 90s. It's so happy. Such a great fucking game.

The 5th generation was the doldrums. The 4th generation was the peak of 2D vidya and the 6th generation the peak of 3D vidya, but the 5th gen was the awkward transition period where 3D gameplay wasn't smoothed out yet and 2D gameplay was underserved.

Only if you're a Nintendo fan. Tons of great 5th gen games both 2D and 3D out there, denial of this is embarrassing.

The 2D 5th gen games are some of the best, but there were too few of them compared to the previous gens. The 3D games largely sucked.

>too few
Something tells me you haven't done your research.
>3D games largely sucked.
Something tells me you haven't done your research.

No u.

Still not seeing that list of games you've played...

>Mischief Makers
>Bomberman
>Sin and Punishment
>Goemon
>Rakuga Kids

post the ones you think are good I've probably played them

>Rush 2149
>Mario Party
>Pilot Wings 64(Fuck you that was a fun game)
>Smash Bros
>Army Men Sarges Heroes 2

Though, 4th Gen will always be my favorite.

Omega boost is 60fps and better looking than anything on the soi64

Omega Boost has extremely simple geometry so it's no surprise.
You might as well compare it to F Zero X, at least that game has to draw a track. Omega Boost is just free floating meshes.

>Omega Boost is just free floating meshes.
So is F-Zero X, and F-Zero X looks a lot worse in comparison.

Damn, the PS1 looks so bland compared to the Saturn and the N64.

It is worth purchasing a Saturn for the arcade ports?
Can you put my own burned discs in it?

Yes and yes, with a tiny little mod or cartridge. It also has many non-arcade games that are great, but otherwise the arcade ports are usually perfect and frequently have expanded content, often so that competitive players consider saturn versions the definitive for games like street fighter alpha 3 and dark stalkers 3.

>60fps games look incredibly basic on PS1
Einhander is 60fps and looks great.

>Einhander
Holy shit I forgot about that game. Thanks user.

6th gen was superior.
4=6>powergap>5>7>8>3

It really isn't.
You're dumping like $400 for a good setup with RGB, ODE and RAM cart, plus a few good condition controllers.
All those ports are on other consoles or MAME now.

Just emulate, why the fuck would you spend that much money?

Fuck no. It was the beginning of the downside into Shitville that games currently inhabit. 3D was a fucking mistake and all zoomers must fucking hang.
