Last Thread: Hi Anons, thank you for all your support so far! For those who didn't see nor know, I was the organizer for Super Mario Zig Forumsorld, a Super Mario World Collaboration hack with levels by your fellow Anons. We are now starting production on the on the sequel, Super Mario Zig Forumsorld 2! Like last time, you will have 31 threads to create and produce your content for the collab, and another month after for testing. Like last hack, this is a SA-1 powered SMW Hack (you can play on real hardware) that contains a baserom of a lot of custom assets to play around with incase you are not good at working with custom resources. Unlike last time however, we are not using the Sprites on Platform Patch.
New to this hack is an organied claim sheet. While it will be set to view only, please use the sheet to claim your resources, and comment in the threads with what you want and I will mark it down. As for submiting levels, you can either submit here in the daily threads or email me your levels at [email protected]. That is not the only thing new however, but I will discuss that in the post below. I can't wait to do this again, let's make something great!
Now that all enemy sprites and boss sprites are complete, this Anchor post will now be about discussion of potential changes or edits to the current ingame sprites.
Please note that this may NOT REFLECT THE FINAL SPRITES SET IN STONE. If you have a better idea for a sprite and want to post it, by all means, and I am happy to change it if your idea is good enough. However, these are the baseline sprites, and at a minimum, this is what is being included. Changes from last thread have been made as well
Now that we are 1/3 of the way done with this hack (as well as having all enemies done and more than half of the levels submitted), I wanted to take some time to discuss potential for the final bosses of this hack, as well as potentially see if there would be any ASM Anons willing to contribute to them.
Like last hack, Zig Forums2 will feature a custom final boss, although this time there would be two. The first I had in mind was Saruin, though edited to look like Xatu to tie into a Zig Forums and niconico meme, which would be in Bowser's Castle. The thinking of this would be to be an overall homage to classic Japanese bosses and the like, which I think would fit in this hack well. An user suggested last thread of setting up Vanilla Bowser (in this case the Snoo) as a bait and switch before the real final boss, which is an idea I like a lot. We still need a port for this boss as well! I currently have a working midi and a skeleton of a txt port, if anyone wants to take a stab at it, I will link below:
For 5-FINAL, the plan is to have Zig Forums rage guy as the boss, with a design and setup more akin to the final boss of Zig Forums1. Attacks and whatnot would be taken from both the videos and comic in this case, and I think that as a conclusion to the hack, it would be equally cool.
Neither of these are final either, and I'm still open to ideas about who should be the boss characters for the finale. Coding hasn't started yet, and probably won't for about a week or so, so until then, I'm still open to different ideas. Thanks a bunch Anons!
Lastly, you'll see that a majority of level slots have been claimed already. DO NOT LET THIS DISCOURAGE YOU. You are still free to make a level, and as long as it is before the deadline your level will be added in. The claim list was a baseline, and that baseline was met.
Additionally, I will also be cleaning the claim list every 7 days. If you're making a level, you must at the minimum show progress once weekly to keep your level claim. This is because I do not want people hogging claims and doing nothing with them. So far, a lot of people are fine, but there are a few levels that I will open up if no new information on them is given in the next few days. If you end up finishing your level after that, and the level is now claimed by someone else, it will go in the temporary claim slots mentioned above and will still be used in the hack. Note that this only applies to LEVEL CLAIMS. You're still entitled to all other resources for the hack claimed.

I'm going to starting working on a level now, although I have next to zero experience. God, I hope this turns out well.

That's alright user, this hack is about having fun, you don't need to make the most complex level. I can't wait to play it!

I wish I could see the week 2 progress pic already. Cannot wait but I’m patient.

It'll be up on Saturday. Though, the more levels we get by then the more impress that it'll look

3-5 user here will post progress in a few days. Reposting from end of last thread cuz I posted as it died. Basically I want a moon in the background of my level:
Is there any way to add custom layer 3 stuff to a level? Like enabling LG5, drawing a pixel spurdo made of 8x8 tiles, then putting him in the layer 3 so i can have a spurdo scrolling by in the level? Also, suppose I want to have a moon in the background, but I don't want there to a moon for each time the background repeats. How could this be achieved? Also hypothetically what if I wanted a spurdo just in the middle of the screen at all times, not moving like he was an addition to the status screen. Is that possible?
Pic related it's me trying to figure this shit out.
Discord wouldn't work for a project like this, and remove the anonymous factor behind submissions. It worked for the first hack, it'll work for this hack.
Also lol this guy warned me for bumping.

Does anyone know how the effect of changing music midway on a level was accomplished in Beep Block City in Zig Forums1? If it isn't too difficult, I might want to try that.
The only thing I think would work better is make the thread a bit later so it coincides with most of the contributers' timezones. Right now, we're in moderately dead hours
Benjamin Long
Beep Block user coded the system himself, it was handled through a custom sprite. I wouldn't recommend using it though because it was specifically for his level and SMW freezes for a bit when you change music tracks via AMK

The first hack I ran during my Winter Holiday, where I worked part-time in the mornings, and didn't get threads out until around Noon or 1PM EST. However, a lot of levels ended up being submitted early in the threads, so I figured to have it be around due to the constant times that Europeans tended to be around.

If all goes to hell, someone should make a thread on /vr/, I guess. I think we're still doing fine atm.
Evan Ross
The warn was global, not Zig Forums, so I'm not sure if that'd be viable. /vr/ also doesn't have the pull Zig Forums has, and it'd be even harder to alert Anons of a board change. I tried running stuff on /vr/ but it never took off due to how slow the board was, and how other projects there took priority.
Alexander Ross
cool. might tinker around to see if I can get a moon behind the background of clouds that "follows" you like in real life. also they do it for free
Kayden Edwards
If there's a specific background from a game you want, I can probably set up backgrounds for it. Also everything looks nicer if Layer 2 is in front of Layer 3, so in order to achieve that you need to put Layer 3 in subscreen.
Probably, there were a lot done on the weekends. I'm still fairly sure that the levels claimed will be finished, but everyone is still free to make levels even if they all end up being claimed.
