For those of us just starting FFXIV (or haven't played since ARR), can you still "get" all this as you play through - or is it some reference to stuff that you won't recognize because its extremely limited, time sensitive story events or whatnot that are no longer available?

I'd like to talk about FFXIV, but if it means getting rid of attention whores like OP, then I'm happy to have threads get purged.

Unlike WoW, which you can just bust through levels to the endgame like crazy, XIV makes you do the story so there's not really any big moments you can miss unless you either skip or don't pay attention

Why is there such relentless shilling for this game on Zig Forums? My friend tried to get me into this game and it struck me as a painfully generic MMO and I didn't enjoy it at all as a result.
